US Spl Forces in Yemen

Discussion in 'Current Affairs, News and Analysis' started by jumpinjarhead, Feb 4, 2010.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Interesting piece from a well known defense reporter on US covert operations in Yemen. As a Constitutional conservative (but apolitical in the partisan sense) who expects our media to be even handed in terms of holding our government accountable it is encouraging to see this kind of reporting about the current administration's involvement in such activities (that allegedly include extrajudicial targeting of US citizens). It is also revealing that these matters are apparently getting so little discussion, much less outrage, among other media outlets, interest groups and individuals that were so incensed and outspoken when similar activities were allegedly undertaken by previous administrations.

  2. The previous administration did it also, the article points that out:

What I found disturbing was this:
Officers knowledgable of current sensitive operations are speaking to a "non-aligned yet conservative" journo about said operations?

    Nice.

  3. Hopefully the reason that they are covert operations is enough to keep the liberal left out of the outrage bus.

    Did someone say "Covert"?

Hey, lets send a Team from Fox to cover that ... 8O

    Doesn't anyone understand STFU?

  5. Usually (not always) when such comments are made to media by our version of THEM, such "tips' have already been vetted and are part of a larger mis/dis-formation campaign. Similar things have occurred in the UK I believe.

  6. I believe that was implicit in the remainder of my comment with the original post.

  7. Sorry, JJH, have blue sophist and I just compromised part of the disinformation mission?

I'd like to think that the G2 and SF specialists are all over supporting the GWoT including ops in Yemen. From my mere, media-browsers view, I believe the Yemeni leadership had requested international upport. Hopefully they are getting it.

    Good posts mate, interesting stuff.

  8. Hah! No doubt ARRSE is the first place Terry goes for ops info! I think you are correct there was an "invitation" (of course as history shows sometimes these invites are not wholly voluntary). One of the pernicious (and frustrating to our counterintell people) things about such "leaks" is that those giving such information often do it "sincerely" out of some misguided (or self inflated) sense that the leaker knows better than anyone else what should be disclosed.

  9. Yep, effing liberals make me sick. Pardon the Anglo-Saxon, I'm English.

  10. Hey, don't worry. Not your fault, is it?

I know, bud. I just hate to see 'activities' spread around. I spent too much time not being able to say anything about anything to feel comfortable about this sort of stuff.

  13. I agree.

  14. Same goes for Pakistan, following the recent killing of 3 US soldiers there:

Note esp. the updates/debate about disclosure here: http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2010/02/3-gis-killed-in-pakistan-when-do-we-start-treating-this-like-a-real-war/

Nice links, Rumple ... I still have a trong preference for silene on these subjects, especially in sensitive territories like "anywhere ending in 'Stan" ;-)
