Perhaps there is an RN officer on exchange at the wheel.
RN Minesweeper commanders are top notch men who won their places through intellect, application, integrity and a good education.

It's not a job you get for: shagging around, hugging trees and with just a paltry handfull of dodgy O'levels.....now is it?

If he had gone for a dodgy art A level he could drive an Apache.

OK cernunnos you've got me there. In that case it's a cunning way to set up a military base.

Perhaps the navigation officer and the Duty boatswain were on the grog, of sorry US ship are dry. If the Septics had an old naval base nearby, then surely they should have had all the requisite charts of the area. Something damn fishy here, unless the Navigation Occifer was wearing a bra and nickers at the time......

Subic Bay was one of their largest Naval Bases outside of the USA, so charts of the Philippine Sea, and South China sea should have been no problem, and these reefs dont just get up and move around....

As it was he went for a couple of dodgy A levels in History and French, and then narrowly scraped a 2:2 at Cambridge

Which more than met the minumum requirements for officer entry to the RN at the time. So what's the problem?
