    It's reported that US special forces will conduct "massive" drills near the Gulf of Oman.

    The purpose of the exercise, it is said, is to convince Iran that it cannot close the Persian Gulf to merchant shipping.

    It's reported that Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and United Arab Emirates are joining the USA in this exercise.

    It's reported that the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy have expressed a desire to participate.

    Minesweeping and anti-submarine exercises will be featured prominently. It says that the Iranians have been laying a lot of mines in the Straits of Hormuz.

    It says that the United States has urged Russia and China to refrain from selling mines to the Iranians.
