Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I am going to Loughborough University in October. And i was thinking of joining the UOTC. Could anybody tell me if they go on expedition trips or mountaineering trips in the holidays? Also i am thinking about a career in the Army as an REME/Artillery Officer. Will the UOTC be a true representation of the army or not?

  2. Have a look in the TA section. More people will know about OTC and should be able to help

  3. In a word: No.

It's not designed to be, it's rather nebulous aim is to give the future leaders of the nation a taste of Army life so that they will be more appreciative and understanding in the future.

In practical terms, this means makes UOTCs student societies with guns and extended opening hours. A local TA Unit would give you a more realistic feel of the Army, but on the other hand a UOTC would give you a wider 'cap-badge' experience owing to the sub-unit affiliations.

BTW there's a whole UOTC forum on the site, check that out for the Adv Trg opportunities.
