University

Hi
Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on being sponsored to do a uni course while in the army.
I've been offered to go to uni after my basic training to study, but this came as a surprise when I went for my final interview at my ACIO this week. So I haven't been given much info on it.
I still have to do ADSC which is this Thursday so if I pass I'll be offered the place officially and they'll give me all the info, I'm assuming. But until then does any1 have any info on being a full time student as a soldier? I know I'll have to attend classes in full uniform. Will I have to live on a garrison or student accommodation? Any general info will be appreciated (I can't seem to find a thread on here relevant to this)
Thanx in advance.

The Army has an education grant, which is the best kept secret in NATO. I used it to do a couple of computer courses, and some other lads did A levels and BTECs at a local college. The last year of my career, I started an Open University degree, which I continued as a civvy and got a B.Sc(Hons) in IT & Computing.

I know some officers get time out to do degree courses at bricks-and-mortar universities.

I'm goin into the dental corps. Ive already got quals from civvy life
I'm confused.

You are already a qualified dentist? If so, you are presumably going back to University for further specialist training? If not, presumably you have shortlisted for a Dental/Medical cadetship?

More info needed.

The poster didn't say he was a dentist.

I'm qualified in dental nursing (I'm female by the way) and yes I'll be doing a uni course in dental hygiene all being well.

The armed forces have a Dental Hygienist training school in Aldershot so you will not be 'going to university'. As you are already a qualified DN it seems to me that it has been suggested that you might consider hygienist training. Is this something you want to do?

Have a look at the careers info:

Army page: http://www.army.mod.uk/rolefinder/role/37/dental-hygienist/

British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy: Interested in a career as a dental hygienist/ dental hygienist-therapist?

Yes this is what I wanted to do, but I was told that they were stopping the hygienist role with the army & they would employ civvy ones instead. But it's seem they have offered me to train before they stop it altogether

Then go for it. As I said before, the training is in Aldershot where you will do Phase 2 training whether joining as a dental nurse or student hygienist.
