Units around Birmingham

Hi all,
Switched my application to reserves and just waiting for a deferral to be lifted

living in Birmingham I’m spoilt for choice but can’t really contact them until my application has sorted.

I can only find out basic information from the army website so can anyone point me in the direction of some more information cause atm I’m looking at 4merc,8rifles, RMonsRE(M), RLC and the royal signals but can’t pinpoint what trades are there apart from the RMonsRE(M)

I can't really help other than to suggest that you use the abbreviation RMonsRE or RMonsRE(M) instead of RMRE. Had you not repeated the term, I would have assumed that you had mistyped REME.

Why not? COVID notwithstanding most units hold open evenings anyone can pop along to, just phone in advance so your name is on the list.

Royal Signals are currently changing the trades around a bit, but are well worth a look. Give the squadron a shout and they'll be happy to talk to you.

They have Driver, Logistic Supply Specialist and Chef trades, they probably have Communications Specialists too.

It is - there are some quite specific challenges to logistic communications - distance being one of them!

No to a visit and a chat with the lads/ladettes until you’re fully through the application process? Not doubting your word but that is pretty unusual. Most units are even happy for you to start attending drill nights while your application is still in progress, they want to keep you keen.

If you are interested in communications, then the Royal corps of signals are THE specialists, and the biggest corps in the army, with many trades, from electricians to electronic warfare, with everything in between. Go on their web site, all will be explained in detail. Good luck with what ever you choose.

You are correct good sir, i had forgot that the RAOC, RASC, RPC RCT, ACC, and sundry other formations were sucked in and christened with a new name.

You can call them 23 SAS (R) you know. No black helicopters will appear overhead.
