UK "redundant" small arms in Libya.

I see "Ex" UK SLRs and GPMG's on the TV, did we sell them directly, or will "smoke and mirrors" apply again?

Great any chance I can get mine back?
BACK OFF!! you can have second pick.

Mines with the old full wood furnish and a new fore-site.

Seriously... thought there was an arms embargo and our old stuff turns up.

Thank you stacker1 for a great link....

NB. Notice the lack of LMG's.. we know Spielberg bought up the SMG's & LG42s for his troopers....

So how do old Brit squaddie weapons end up in funny corners of Africa.
and if you ship one you can ship a boat, the IRA taught us that.

Any Small Metal Guns out there? If that's the case the only thing to fear is having one accidentally dropped on your toe.

As long as it's not dropped while cocked and with a mag on. Sore toe AND lose the tip of your nose. Fixed firing pin. Sterling idea......

As I understand it, large quantities of our surplus weapons were sold to Sierra Leone at knock down prices. Once a weapon is in Africa, the world's it's oyster!!

Being a pedant also, they were MG34's and not MG42's

Also bought LH40c; clearly seen being used as an optical aid by Skywalker in one of the early fillums.

Bubbles... Yes they are Alecto's, we had a few at Barce 'C'Sqd. and there were some with 'A' and 'HQ' in Benghazi.
OK, I know no one believes that they were in service but I think we had the only ones...1st.Kings Dragoon Guards.

WTF are they? I'm a bit of an armour buff but I've never seen these before in my life! The suspension looks like that from a Tetrarch light Tank though, are they some sort of SP A/Tk. gun or something?

Actually, don't bother, I just Googled it and all is clear! I was right about the Tetrarch link though!

looking at those figures; where the **** did Malta get nearly 80 million Euros worth of 'small guns' from?
from the article:
UPDATE, 2 MARCH 2011: The Maltese government claims it accidentally added an extra '0' to its arms figures for 2009 - you can read the report on MaltaToday.com here.

I find it funny that people get so worked up about "small arms" sales. If we didnt sell them old SLRs they would soon find someone perfectly happy to sell them new AKs.

We have a curious attitude towards / fear of guns in this country. Some good friends of mine on the other side of the Atlantic have extensive collections, all legal.
