UK Military "Best in the World" say British Public

As Armed Forces personnel continue their vital work in the UK and overseas this Christmas, a MORI Poll shows that nearly 80 per cent of the public believe that the British Armed Forces are amongst the best in the world.

According to the poll, 84 per cent of people think that the UK needs strong Armed Forces. Over three quarters of people think highly of the UK Armed Forces training and professional standards. 80 per cent of people think that the UK Armed Forces make a positive contribution to the UK at home through activities such as Cadets, Fishery Protection and bomb disposal.

    Notes to Editors

    1. The October 2006 Ipsos MORI Social Research Institute's Armed Forces & MoD Reputation Tracking report was conducted between 28 September and 2 October 2006. 974 adults were interviewed as a representative sample of the Great British population.

    2. In the poll, the public were asked the extent to which they agree with the statement that "The British Army is among the best in the world" - 36% strongly agree, and 44% tend to agree. Just 2% disagreed with this statement.

    3. 80% also agree that "The UK Armed Forces make a positive contribution to the UK", with just 3% disagreeing.

    4. 84% agree with the statement "The UK needs a strong Armed Forces", with just 4% disagreeing.

    5. 73% agree that "The UK Armed Forces have the highest professional standards", and 75% agree that their "training is world class".

    6. Over Christmas, members of the UK Armed Forces will be serving in: Falklands/Ascension Islands - 1,200; Cyprus - 3,000; Gibraltar - 560; Germany - 22,500; Northern Ireland - 8,500; Bosnia - 600; Kosovo - 200; Afghanistan - 5,800; Iraq - 7,100; Diego Garcia - 40; United Nations Operations - 300.

    7. As with all surveys conducted on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, the survey will be published on the MOD website http://www.mod.uk. This will happen in the New Year.

  2. They seem to be pretty 'leading' questions - 'do you agree that'....etc.
The MOD obviously knew how to phrase the questions!
You'll notice, however, that there is one question NOT asked - do you think the UK Armed Forces are well served by the MOD?

  3. I should bloody coco.

Imagine just how good the British army would be if the kit and the funding matched the training!

If the yanks used the British Regimental system, they'd be the best in the world rather than the most expensive and under-trained.

  4. The British Regimental system that's being scrapped?

  5. " Aye it's Tommy Atkins this and Tommy Atkins that...."

Bollocks! The public read the Sun. And they don't know 'nuffing'

Still. Their hearts are innit. Ain't they?

    "God Bless us everyone."

  6. Would be nice if they'd encourage their government to pay for it though, wouldn't it?

  7. "80 per cent of people think that the UK Armed Forces make a positive contribution to the UK at home through activities such as Cadets, Fishery Protection and bomb disposal. "
