Truck Porn

Phwoar . . . . :) .

That brings-back memories of the three years service, before I was commissioned!! ;) .

Wonderful.

Note: re-instates original AVATAR
Rather you than me, to be honest. That gearbox is a bit manly. A mate has got a 1943 Mat. I can’t get passed 2nd gear!

"Sheet Moulding Composite/Compound" (SMC), which I understand was still basically GRP . . . but, instead of a "gun" chopping and spraying the glass-fibre into a mould, a (huge) sheet of the stuff would be pulled between a male and female press . . . much the same as you would stamp-out metal pressings.
Spot on my boy.

I can’t master it. Climbing a hill is a nightmare, especially 3rd to 2nd.
My mate has it down to a fine art.
Crash boxes, love ‘em!
must admit, I was taught by who I’d class, as a old knight of the road. He’d started driving in the early 50s on old Army trucks civvised.
He knew tricks and road craft that were like gold dust.

I didn't realise that AWD was a proper name from the past, with a real history!

I thought it was just an appropriate name, some bloke thought of/adopted, to continue production of the Bedford 4x4 trucks.

It’s a Vickers mk1 @Smeggers still in service in 1939 I’ve seen photos of 1RTR using the in Egypt.
It's not a truck so I wouldn't know! If it has tracks it's a tank, if it has wheels, it's a wagon!
