Troops returning to Iraq?

Just seen this on the BBC news website

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30464272

Hundreds of British troops will be sent to Iraq in the New Year, Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has said.

The deployment - to help train local forces - would be in the "very low hundreds" but could also include a small protection force of combat-ready soldiers, he said.

About 50 UK troops are already training Iraqi and Kurdish forces fighting Islamic State militants in Iraq.

The Ministry of Defence said a decision on troop numbers had not yet been made.

Don't want their 'rapey' palls coming back to Bassingbourn to do the training...........

Any ideas as to which Inf Bn will be the lucky winners for this task? I can't remember who's on SLE at the moment, but they're probably going to have a busy final week prior to Xmas leave. No doubt there will be a few 'trawl bombs' landing at other Units is pursuit of assorted niche area specialists.

why would we use the SLE Bn? My guess is that these will be specialists (CIED, Log, ISR, CIS) with an FP wrap. The last thing these guys need is to be told how to conduct sect & Pl attacks, they've been engaged in close quarter combat for 2yrs...what they need help with is enabling and sustaining their forces.

Someone remind me, how did those Iraqi Army jonnies we trained perform against IS?

Well, apparently they are all fighting for them and they rock!

Shurley shomfing wrong?

Good old mission creep, how come this does not have to be voted on in Parliament?

I thought Dave said no boots on the groung?

It amazes me how politicians continually fail to learn from the lessons of the recent past.

Wets.

I presume they'll be about twice the number of private contractors going in as well?
