Transcribed letters from the Western Front 1917

#1
Some may be interested in some recently transcribed letters from a Thomas Sumner a member of the 13th Machine Gun Squadron, British Expeditionary Force serving on the Western Front in 1917.

They include detail of marching into Germany and pursuing the Germans for 9 hours after the Armistice.

Quite remarkable for their candour (IMHO)

Some excellent work done by the transcribe. it makes it that little bit more "personal", especially at this time.
It goes to show; squaddies have always been the same, especially the bit about scrapping in the swanky café with the Prussians and wrecking the place.

It was jolly hard lines, two of our boys got killed about an hour before hostilities ceased, we were scrapping against some Uhlans who were covering the German infantry as they retired. One boy had been out there since August 1914.

Poor chaps :(
