Trade Instructors

#2
Yes, there are a few. Despite a decent renumeration package there weren't as many applicants as were expected so the RSME has had to keep on more trade instructors. As to how many posts available I don't know.

That's not quite true. Virtually all the Programme Areas (as the old Departments are now known) are fully manned with civilian instructors, or soon will be. This includes Programme Areas that historically have always struggled to recruit civilian instructors eg electricians.

However the majority of Programme Areas still have military instructors, often a SSgt and/or a Cpl, to assist with duty of care, military ethos and to deliver those modules that the Authority (the "green") still delivers. Often this is the final "green" exercise or a specialist area (eg hydrographic survey for the surveyors) that the Partner either felt they could not deliver or the Authority wanted to retain.

So yes there is still the opportunity to be a trade instructor at Chatham, but the number of posts is greatly reduced and it is unlikely that you will be instructing all the time. Very often you will also have a "supervisory care" role as well within the Sqns that all the military trade instructors now sit in.

I had heard that the trade instructors were getting more duty of care stuff as 36 Sqn personnel were thinned out.

I know the PEW managed to get back a couple more of the military instructor slots for the Clk Wks and MPF courses although again, how many I don't quite know.
