Town hall flags at half mast for Bhutto

#4
I thought half mast was only for UK Royalty etc. IIRC the union flag is only to be flown from govt buildings on certain days and half mast only on order from No 10 or Buckingham Palace?

why is the flag of another country flying from a public building....

It would be interesting to know whether any protocols have been breached flying the Pakistani flag. I can see no reason why it should be done, unless it's a colonial hangover type thing.

I look forward to seeing the Union Flag flying outside Islamabad governmental buildings when the leader of any ad hoc political party pops his clogs in the UK (Galloway would be a good start)

Liarbour council pandering to supposed local feelings again no doubt....... tossers

Ok, done some digging, the Dept of Culture, media and sport are in charge

Flags

and according to HM the Queen, no flags are to be flown at half mast unless orderd and only during official mourning, so Bradford council need to sort their lives out...

Right that's it- my flagpost and union flag are finally getting assembled and flown on my house first thing tomorrow.

Two of my Pakistani colleagues emailed to say they weren't coming in today because of what had happened. So you never know!
I hope it cost them annual leave or a days pay! Remind me why British lives are being lost overseas?

In fairness, if The PM were to snuff it in an horrific suicide bombing tomorrow, I doubt many of us would be in at work the following day because of it..

Tell you what though, the Pubs'd make a fortune.

She's not the PM, a better comparison would be David Cameron...

And if you were in another country and took a day off, you'd probably be in trouble.

Fcuking flags. If you're going to fly 'em learn the rules.

Anyway, get the Pakistani flags down (if they are half up) and get the Union Flag up. NOW.

so by that rational if we were worknig in saudi and david cameron snuffed it, we'd expect the local saudi council to fly their national flag at half mast, fly the union flag at half mast and have a buckshee day of work....

...of course, it doesn't work like that for us imperialistic pig-dogs....

Bhutto had close links with Bradford, with many friends and family members living there.

Does anyone know that permission hasn't been given to fly the Pakistan flag at half mast?
