  1. RAF Typhoon Battles Bugatti Veyron In Top Gear Challenge...

Viewers of motoring programme Top Gear will get to see a spectacular contest between the RAF's Eurofighter Typhoon F2 and a 250mph Bugatti Veyron on the 28th of October, following 'secretive filming' at the service's Coningsby base.

In contrast to previous encounters of this type, such as between an Italian Eurofighter and Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F1 racing car in 2003, the showdown provided more of a test for the Typhoon, which was flown by RAF display pilot Flt Lt Jim Walsh of the service's 29 Sqn Operational Conversion Unit.

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond had to race a £700,000 Veyron for one mile along the Coningsby runway, before turning around and heading for the finish line, while the Typhoon F2 was required to take off, climb for a mile, perform a half Cuban turn and dive back to pass the chequered flag at a height of 100f; and all without going supersonic.
  2. Nah, the Tyfooon pilot will fluff the turn, bottle out on the decent, eject at 200 ft and crash headlong into the Guildford branch of WH Smiths leaving Hammond, Clarkson and that other bloke giggling like school kids and joking about pilots being made of sterner stuff during the BoB. Probably.
  3. Aaaand The Typhoo Won... Hardly Surprising Eh?
  4. Course it did Richie the crabs had a whole Regt of RAF Plod there........ if you go over 100 on our runway Mr Hammond we will have to do you cause you might make our new toy look silly..........IMHO
  5. Think the Typhoon pilot could have got just a little lower!
  6. Yup. Spoilsport.
  7. The pilot's name is Flt Lt Jim WALLS - not WALSH.
  8. On the face of it, it would seem to be a very even contest; both machines being absurdly expensive and of very little practical use.
  9. Hammond is not very good at driving fast in a straight line. I was looking forward to the crash, but what can you do?

He could have done indeed, which would have resulted in a £1,000,000 Supercar being flipped over in its backwash.
  11. Good old Arrse, you can always count on someone being sensible!

Absolutely, if Hammond had had yet another crash the show might have been canceled! :D
  13. But can you imagine the slagging he's getting from Clarkson and May about losing... they probably told him to get back in the car and do the decent thing after he lost!
