So the Coldplay thread got an airing and it seems there are a lot of peeps interested in the old popular beat combos here.

Post your top recent and your top five all-time classic artists/bands below. I have a sneaking suspicion that the overall outcome will be guitar-heavy.

Nah, never heard of 'em. Okay I have, they're mentioned in Hi Fidelity (Nick Hornby novel/screenplay).

To my eternal shame, I saw them several times in the 70s, can still sing "Sylvia" badly and even have an MP3 of Moving Waves somewhere on a hard disk.

Recent. Hmmm. I'm a bit of a stiff when it comes to music. So I suppose it would be:

"Recent"

Foo Fighters (they get better and better, don't they?)
The Darkness
Barenaked Ladies (not recent recent, but recent if you get my drift)
Oasis (I shouldn't like them, but I really do)
Red Hot Chilli Peppers

---

"Classic"

Squeeze
Motorhead
Lloyd Cole and the Commotions
REM (anything up to and including Automatic for the People)
Mister Francis Sinatra

I don't like skinny art-college nerd guitar bands that seem to be all the rage at the moment. If I want to dig that New Wave vibe I'll go and stick some early Pretenders on, thanks.
