Micheal Rutter the son of Tony Rutter, announced the the death of his Father at 2am this morning.

He started his TT career in 1965, by the time he retired in 1990 he amassed quite a record.
7 TT wins
20 Podiums
57 finishes in 83 starts
Receiving 33 Silver Replicas

He also successfully Raced on the Roads in NI
Winning 5 Ulster GPs
9 NW200s
Inducted into NW200 Hall of Fame

Twice British Champion in 350/250 classes.
I personally saw him race at the TT in 1982 a class act. RIP.
That is such a shame - I think I read somewhere that he had cancer but possibly got that wrong. Tony's father was also a much lauded bike racer as well. Tragic news.

War Hero
The first time I first saw Tony ride was at the North West 200 in 1973 and the memory is still clear in my mind. I was spectating at the right-hander after the start (this was long before the start and finish chicane was constructed) and on the second lap of the 250cc race, Tony came flying down from Juniper Hill into that bend with both wheels in the gutter and his right knee hanging over the kerb. I had never seen any rider do that before, but he did it every lap. That was one of the most exciting races I've ever seen. Tony has been one of my favourite riders since that day.
