Having a load of old Pyrex in the kitchen (bought from the Army when they decided that such support for families was too expensive), I was making a curry today and wondered if a pyrex casserole could work on the gas hob.
Naturally, instead of testing and possibly coating the walls with Madrassi beef, I checked up on the web and found that European Pyrex is or was made with borosilicate glass, and could therefore be used over direct heat, but American pyrex is/was made with soda-lime glass, and would shatter if so used:
- from the makers, I think.
However, I always start the curry process on the hob (browning, onions, garlic etc) and would rather not bugger around with separate pans, so I've bought this:
