Anybody here from my old battery and if so is there still a yearly booze up in my name?
Ex-E trooper (70-71) here i will try to find out if there is a reunion in the offing.
Toombs Troop came to the Falklands with us in the summer of 1983 - were you cloud punchers?
Henry Toombs. Top bloke. Saw a new subbie making an arrse of himself by getting in amongst the lightly armed natives with his sword and in danger of getting cut off. Rescued subbie, killing many of said lightly armed natives, got a VC and a battery named after him. Good days work, I'd say... A good drinking battery (and not bad at gunnery) when I was BK, though I would say that wouldn't I.
But what I never understood as a young gunner was why the young subbie got the VC as well?
Surely he should have got six weeks extras for being too far forward!
You've got me there. Maybe it was a 'buy one get one free' offer?
