BBC News - Republic of Ireland time zone change considered in parliament (c) Aunty

I'm not sure that members of the Dail have thought this through. There is a proposal that the ROI should run it's clocks on CET rather than GMT/BST. Crossing the border would mean messing around with watches and clocks. There is, however, the benefit of extended daylight hours in winter.

Good or bad idea?

This sounds like an attempt to get some of "that Europe money" - it's a stupid idea. The Ferry from Cork to Roscoff would pass from Irish CET, through BST and then back to CET when it hits French waters.

Bad, even Spain and Portugal are considering a return to GMT. Too far west.

It seems they're toying with the idea of going from driving on the left to driving on the right too. From Apr 01 next year, all HGV and PCV will do so, and if it's successful, the following year cars will follow-suit.

No, the amount of daylight is determined by our orbit around the sun. You'll get the same amount of daylight, it'll just be at a different time of day.

You say that in jest.....when my old man was working in some African state or other they did something similar, trucks, lorries and buses changed sides on day cars the next......needless to say his head office told them all to stay inside for the next few days.

Are they going to change their time zone from the 1950's to the 21st Century?

That joke was first discovered written in hieroglyphs inside an Egyptian pyramid, they've just changed 'ox carts' to HGV 'chariots' to 'cars'
