This years holiday.

Its a strange report, there are hundreds of small businesses on the NW500 selling everything from Art and pottery to homemade shortbread- cakes-jams and preserves. These all sustain the local economy. The pubs cafes and restaurants are very reliant on the tourists as well.
£9 chuffing million boost to the economy, and you'd think their favourite sheep had been unfaithful.

Many locals fcuking hate the NC500 and it is getting worse

Take camper convoys, caravans, ordinary motorists and local traffic then throw in knobheads with high-powered cars and bikers. Stick them on ropey roads, sometimes single track with passing places and a lot of it unfenced which sheep etc can bimble on. Market it heavily.

What could possibly go wrong?

It's not exactly liked by those of us with a camper van who seek solitude and peace and quiet either.... the best days are long gone for quite camping in beautiful locations troubled only by 50 squillion midges

I wonder where all the Teuchters who grouse about the NC500 go for their holidays?

I bet they don't give a tuppenny fcuk about the people at their destination of choice, when they add to congestion, pollution, littering and sheep worrying.

Study reveals that the Teuchters of the Highlands and Islands are a set of sour faced, miserable cnuts.

The study also reveals that bears Sh1t in woods and that the Pope is indeed a Catholic.
Not my experience, but in common with other people, I suspect they tend to mirror the kind of the people they have to deal with. Hence your personal perspective.

Arriving at our overnight hotel near Durness one afternoon, my wife and I decided to have a drink as it was a fine sunny day and we had had a long journey. “No came the reply, the bar doesn’t open ‘till six o’clock!”

It was 5:55.

Couldn’t see that happening in darkest Ireland.

In Ireland they'd have said "would you like a drink while you're waiting?"

No no, they only tend to mirror the type of people they deal with.

Apparently.

At short notice, and with all the chavs going camping, I think we'll be giving it a miss this year.

same here. Local Camp shop is full of semi feral chavscum who’ve bought cheap tents or ‘converted’ a builders van into a ‘Motorhome ’ for staycations.
proper sites should be ‘interesting’ this year as they fill up with wannabe pikies.

I've had my campervan for seven years now. We have made several visits to the Western Isles and the Highlands always out of season Early May or late September weather is better and the place is not infested with geriatrics in motorhomes. We are out and about most weekends and use small sites like farmers fields or small pub sites that you only hear about by word of mouth. Best if no electric hook ups available as it keeps the masses away.

Its been decided to forego the annual holiday this year and spend the money on the house. Once Wales is out of lockdown I will get away for a few weekends of wild camping over the Summer probably but SWMBO has had a long furlough like me so happy to not go away this year.
Good idea .

Not really , every other idiot is doing it that is why prices at DIY stores have gone through the roof. Try buying plaster ouch, paint especially fence paint trebled in price.
Or spend 300 or 500 quid on a holiday and then spend 14 days in lockdown? No income .

Cheap holiday at them prices ;) . I made the fatal error of mentioning to SWMBO early in January that the house could do with a lick of paint. By the end of the month she had purchased paint for every room so when the lockdown started I was shafted .

So....Hollybobs 2020 then......I think I'll be giving the Magic Kingdom a miss:

Florida is rapidly becoming the epicenter of the national outbreak, if not of the entire global pandemic. The state reported 15,300 new infections on Sunday, by far the highest daily count for any state since the crisis began.

Florida's per-capita infection rate is now 20 percent higher than New York's was at the peak of its outbreak in the spring.

One Florida infectious disease specialist on Monday compared Miami to “Wuhan six months ago.”

It is also the state where Disney World reopened this weekend,
and where the NBA is trying to construct a virus-free “bubble” complex for its players to complete the basketball season.

Had a cruise booked with Princess for May which was cancelled of course. Received a full refund through my travel agent yesterday.

Which was nice.

Mrs F currently looking at cruise in the Med in October.

Just seems a gamble whether it would even go or not, let alone if it is advisable if it diď
The thought of going to an airport, climbing into a cigar tube, breathing the same air as everyone else in the tube - and then getting on a liner in the Med , getting the screaming shits from the water tanks and A/C - and all this while a Pandemic is on ?

Save yourself a fortune - and possibly your health.
Say No !
