You may want to rethink the Mexico bit. Went there last year and by God has it changed. Not just the fact that, this year, the Covid deaths have just outstripped the UK ones, but the beaches are inundated with a foul seaweed all along the Caribbean and Atlantic coasts. Sargussum, a foul smelling algae that is not just stacking up on the beaches but turning the seas brown for hundreds of yards out.
Despite the hotels using machines to try and clear it, it just piles up and up. We had a magnificent hotel (service was brilliant, food was brilliant and the experience was brilliant) but go for a dip in the sea and you'd come out covered in the stuff and you couldn't get rid of the smell.

Our hotel had 4 different security levels to get to due to the massive increase in crime. Police everywhere due to the increased crime and kidnappings. Getting as bad as Jamaica with escorts everywhere.
Used to love it there but I thank that's the last visit we are going to take.

Mexico city impossible to breathe, Acapulco and the Pacific part being run by cartels.
Downtown Mogadishu might be a better choice.

Cheers mate; enjoy your holidays as well!

Should be okay on the old kidnapping front as we’re going to Quintana Roo and it’s pretty safe.

On the seaweed issue, the hotel has four swimming pools so not the end of the world.

We got back from the Somme yesterday. We had a great time over there and my partner really enjoyed visiting the various sites and learning about the battles.

The holiday started off a bit crap though as I managed to stuff my bike into the back of an artic lorry on the M3/M25 just 15 minutes after setting off. At the end of the day it was my fault. I didn't realise that when an artic lorry panic brakes, it just stop, and stops a damned site quicker than a BMW GS1200Adv when it is fully loaded up with panniers and pillion (even a skinny lass like my GF). I thought I had safe distance but I will be giving artics a hell of a lot more room in future.
We managed to get to the side of the road (no bloody hard shoulder which is scary) and asses the damage. I had hurt my wrist, but managed to pick the bike up, but when checking out the bike, it was screwed. smashed fairing, headlight and the bars were not pointing the same way as the front wheel.

We were able to limp the bike back home and changed the eurotunnel ticket to take my Navara.
All showered and so we set off again a couple of hours late, but with a flexi ticket, it didn't matter what time we got to Ashford. Once we got to Albert, we just chucked the bags into the hotel and went to the town square where we proceeded to get shit faced and chill out.
And then came the next mistake. Andoulette Sausage. I had heard about this 'delicacy' and thought I would give it a go.......never again.....ever, ever again. It really does smell and taste of pig shit. And it has a wonderful habit of repeating on you and then your burps also smell of pig shit. So more beer was required.

Anyway, back to the holiday and the sites were immaculate as usual. The museum under the cathedral was open and excellent. This was my 3rd trip and I had never done this museum before and it is very well done.
We then did the Newfoundland site, Thiepval and Delville wood (The Ulster Tower was closed sadly). The sites are really quite at the moment, no coaches and very few people visiting. It was a very strange and unique experience to have the whole Theipval monument to ourselves at a midday on on a Saturday. So peaceful and special.

We visited several other cemeterys, one that stood out was Gordons Dump Cemetery which we visited after Lochnagar. Very peaceful and in a location that was one of the objectives for the Northumberland Regiment (Sausage Valley).
We met up with friends who live over there and who run The Battlefield Experience tour company. It was brilliant catching up with them and they treated us to a lovely home cooked meal with stacks of wine.

All in all a top weekend (once we finally managed to get down there). Now I am just sorting out the insurance and trying to get used to typing with a sprained wrist :)

Sounds fun, I too have tried Andoulette Sausage, one of the worst things I have eaten ever, smells disgusting and is disgusting, I still think its some sort of French joke played on tourists. Thanks for reminding me.

You are not the first and will not be the last person to make that mistake. The word “sausage” is the trap.

Still no word from the government on whether The Canaries are ok for next week.

Possible announcement tomorrow.

As it stands TUI haven’t cancelled our trip yet so we’re still planning to go, but with the contingency of heading up to Scotland with the roof tent if it gets shit canned at the last minute.

If it does get binned then we get a 500 quid rebooking bonus from TUI. This was only supposed to be a cheapish (by the wife’s standards) holiday to tide us over until ski season. But with the extra 500 quid, we might as well just put the whole lot towards next years holiday.

So now looking at Zanzibar or Mauritius for 2021.

Anyone ever been to either?

Thailand and Sri Lanka also possibles but not as high up the list.

Spoke to Jet2 on Monday , I decided on a refund , just in case circumstances change, Money back in the bank this afternoon.
So I might stay in the log cabin in the woods and tell my self I'm far a way from home..........

Canaries are off. Zanzibar booked for next July.

Heading north to do the NC500 next week.

Looks like I’ll be spending the weekend fitting and testing the roof tent.

Just got back from three nights in the trailer tent at Brixham. Lazing about, watching idiots who normally go to Spain trying to do camping, lots of snorkeling, full English breakfasts, gourmet burgers.

With Milan cancelled last May (still awaiting the refund from Ryanair) and our Antigua trip cancelled for October (got the deposit back from Virgin) we looked at where we normally have a local trip to in Spain where we can drive.
Altea, nice little beach town (but with pebble beaches being the drawback) and got a message from the hotel they are not taking bookings at the moment due to a regression to Phase 2 of lockdown.

OK, look the other way. Mojacar, aka the white coast town, looks good and quite popular. Nope, couple of dozen cases reported so bars and restaurants on a curfew and nightspots to close completely.

Ah, well. View from my balcony is quite good at the moment. No crowds.

Better ensure it's well water proofed!

And midge proof. Get some smidge, you'll need it.

Just spent a week in Orkney. First break from work for 6 months, for some reason Mrs F found a cottage with no internet or TV! Absolute bliss.
Mainly walked and visited friends. Good food and many miles walked.

I bet he never thought of rain and midgies is Scotland.

It's not like he's doing Paris Dakar, is it?
Given the number of tourists who turn up here in summer expecting high temperatures and dry weather it's only fair to warn him.

For instance I believe it's been over 30 down south the day, we are sitting at 16.

And not everyone is aware of the perils of the midge
