Any serving or ex MPGS out there recommend it?Is it a good move?Or is it crap?
Look at it this way, did you ever stag on? did you like it? Rain, sun, ice, was it fun?....take all those lovely memories you have put them in an application, put on a MPGS capbadge and do it for a living...think outside the box laddie.., big civvie world out here, jump in

Stagging on was on my list of reasons for leaving, amongst others. Why do it for a career? It's nice out here in civ div and you DON'T have to stag on.

ambition.......er..nope,not at the moment,......apart from paying off bills 8O The place i work at the moment has just cut everyones wages,a nice bit of rounding down the numbers!
Yep,not the most interesting job in the world.
Anyone know any contract killers who need an apprentice?

You have more than you think, you dont say how long you served, but you have key skills wanted by civ div that they cant buy namely:

Team Player
Tenacious and quick thinking
Quick to adapt and learn
Minimum Supervsion
Small team specialist
Smart Appearance

I can go on and on, but its easy, look in the local jobs bit, look for those key words, tailor your CV to fit if you have those skills, get your suit on, Kiwi the shoes, shave, turn up on time and get that bloody job..............boost your pay packet..pay your bills and then live the life you want to live..but DONT say you dont have ambition....get yourself out the rear rank and back in the front rank...better still..the right marker...

Gungadin - don't think anyone has asked you your background yet or why you are considering gate technician as a possible career move. Condiser this as me asking the question.

Give us some background and we will find a suitable job for you - even if you almost certainly would never consider doing it. Skills, geography, salary (required) etc info would be helpful. Have you looked in the job section on this site lately? Anything fit your profile?

I had the joy of running in to a chap the other day, nonchalantly dropping into the conversation that he was "shooting tommorow" cue hushed silence from awe struck civvies!!
I asked him what he was shooting, he looked at me pityingly and said "rifles" about turned and continued bigging himself up to the attending civvies..........
I asked if he was forces and he said "yeh infantry Sgt"
Cool I said, what unit you with...."I'm at the citadel you know Plymouth"
Ah "29 are you?"
"yeh yeh thats right"

to cut a long story short he continued with his vague and generalised dits, till it became obvious, he had never been infantry/commando/senior rate, etc etc and had in fact completed 22 years in the navy and had meteorically risen to the height of Petty officer pan basher!!!

Once rumbled he cracked on about how he was a real performer in the MPG whatever and had reached Sgt really fast and he was in charge of ex infantry guys/WO2's etc etc

My only thought was what a snivelling little snotty W anchor and pity for those he worked along side!!
Perhaps I should have put this in a walt thread?

stagging on as a career shows an inordinate lack of imagination and drive

all the best

I agree, if it's Security Policing that interests you then the MOD Police would in my opinion, be a better choice.

Check out the UK Police Website and if you favour Security Policing rather that Community Policing, the Non Geographic Forces, with the exception of the British Transport Police might be of interest to you.

Yeah,i get the picture............Just been daydreaming bout long boring hours, being bored, being cold and bored, being bored, being wet and bored, being bored, stood around being bored, sat down being bored etc.... 8O
liked the tale bout the petty officer pan basher...that paints a picture and an insight into the type of people probably working in MPGS 8O .............mpgs now removed from my things i might do list!
Am trying to find some kind of employment within Gov,MOD,DERA etc..rather than civvy companies for pension reasons.
THanks for the MODPLOD.com link, will take a look at it and the jobby bit on this site too.
Only just started looking at options, so any suggestions are welcome.
Came across an ad in the paper for summat called MSF,Military Support function, but the link they gave in the ad does'nt seem to exist on the MOD web site?
Have usefull stuff like HGV,HAZMAT etc... and plenty of experience(12yrs) of bridges, blowing stuff up etc
Thanks for all the comments, good to have some input.

Enter this site, search on all, check all and then look at details of jobs. Will let you know if it is MSF or not. MSF is just the name now given to a variety of roles that the MOD are hoping to fill from ex- mil community.

Cheers,will do.
