Cabbage, Tenderheart or Savoy, in one inch strips. Frying pan , hot, decent size chunks of smokey bacon lardons+, cook till perfect as only bacon should be cooked, remove from the pan
Large knob of butter melted add the cabbage and stir it round the pan to coat all the strips , then add three table spoons of water , salt and loads of fresh ground black pepper stirred around again lower heat and cook until the bottoms of the cabbage arealmost burned caramelised, , add lardons+ for two minutes to reheat , add a further knob of butter
works much the same with carrots, parsnips though you really have to roast or they turn to mush
