Out of borstal training at 17, moved to England, got a trainee job in engineering , went to college. Finished exams at 19. Didn't fancy turning out like the students around me, wanted to Skydive , Dive, Climb Ski etc. Spoke with a colleague who was ex REME, advised in no uncertain terms that if thinking of joining up go do it NOW before Civvy Street gets a hold with women wanting houses and kids. Joined up a couple of weeks later, basic training 3 weeks after that. Did everything I wanted to do and never looked back. Queen and Country? A bit time consuming that I had to work as a Soldier for them every so often but rough with the smooth. Early retirement as WOat 15 year point for nice redundancy package.
