The unimaginatively titled general motorsport thread.

After annoying people in the Grand Prix thread by posting about other motorsports events I've been advised to start this thread which can encompass the rest of the motorsports world.

My own interests away from GP's include the Indycar series and the various forms of endurance racing.

Away you go...

Any plans to cover motorcycle road racing?

May I start this off with a (possibly) controversial point?

The lower the budget, the better the racing.

Karts, 2 stroke where you need a licence, not the crappy "Prokarts" that anyone can have a go on.

Formula Ford 1600.

As the budget rises, the racing, and cheating, gets worse.

Chat only or are images and links of all things motorsport allowed.?
I'm not sure what the Admins and house rules are on illegal streams but I reckon they will be frowned upon. @Arte_et_Marte
A lot of races are shown on youtube these days. Certainly the IMSA and endurance stuff is which is how I follow it usually.

I'm happy for any content of interest, pics, podcasts and anything relevant.

Prefer to compete , used to do the odd Enduro (moto X`ers that are road registered) , wouldnt mind having a go again , over 50`s class , remember if you didn't fall off you weren't trying.

Followed motorcycle speedway most of my life. Involved with the sport since I was 14 or 15 of so. Started learning to ride, until I had a big crash which, despite being just bumps, cuts bruises and a dislocated knee, brought me to my senses. I was never good enough to compete. Up until a few years ago, I dabbled in mechanics for a few riders as a back-up usually in exchange for hanging around the pits. Haven't broken out my spanners for a few years now.

I like to watch the classic racing at Goodwood etc and classic touring cars . To me touring cars died at the end of the 90s .

Rallying went the same as well , its just to boring .

I think I'd be okay speaking for Admin on this point, and that would be a definite, no, not allowed.

I agree about Rallying , but try touring cars this weekend some cracking racing. Ginnetta racing is excellent.

I agree. I used to follow the European Touring Car Championship.

Rover SD1, BMW 635, Volvo 240, Holden Commodore. Three hour races with two drivers per car. Walkinshaw, Percy, Berger, Brancatelli, Hahne, Quester, Surer, Allam, Brock, Grice, Perkins, Rouse.

Then came the M3 and Sierra Cosworth, the races shortened, the contact increased until it seemed like a stock car race.

Went to the Ferrari Challenge at Croft today. Drove over in the Mondial with sprogs in the back.

Saw the first race which was made up of older cars, 308s, 328s, 348s, 355s and a very out of place but very cool Mondial T (like mine).

Then a chance to look around the paddock and pits while people were busy trashing their road cars round the track.

Unfortunately the main 488 challenge race, resulted in a big crash on the start line.

No one hurt but they made a proper mess of the track and barriers and that fucked it for the rest of the day. Track closed for safety reasons and that was that.

No big deal, still a good day and we didn’t pay to get in, because I’m good at blagging.

“Oh yes, we’re guests of the Ferrari dealership. I believe they’ve got our tickets in the VIP tent.”
