The Trump Presidency...

The thing I find fascinating (well mildly interesting at least) is the tears and drama which seem to be involved in any discussion of politics in the US these days. Everything is expressed in the most apocalyptic of terms. Politicians apparently aspire to not just defeat their opponents at the polls and force them to sit on the other side of the house for a few years, but rather to imprison them and their families and persecute their supporters.

Either Americans are the biggest drama queens going or the US is well on its way to third world status. And if it's the latter, then it isn't something they can fix by voting for the "correct" party. The problem is with the mentality of the country as a whole who see this as a natural state of affairs.

The poster who replies with "but it would all be OK if everyone would just vote for my party" is just showing that he not only doesn't understand the problem, he is the problem, or rather a part of it.
I think the drama thing is one thing you can put square on the media, with so many news channels competing for a share of the pie so going over the top seems SOP. I remember seeing a clip from Russel Howard's Good News Week show with a comparison between UK/US reporting on the Ebloa outbreak a few years back, the US reported it like it was a global apocalypse.

As for the depth of the partisan divide it's the echo chamber effect, talk radio doesn't help but it's the online world that is deepening the divide steaming sites are awash with right wing wannabe Alex Jones / Rush Limbaugh's types or left wing condescending Jon Stewart impersonators that actively stifle open debate by blocking opposing views consequently the other side of the story becomes fake news so your either a Libtard or a Republicunt, people have become too lazy to do their own research so just get spoon fed the partisan hatred of their choice, it's worse than Glasgow on derby day.

You mean no other political parties are allowed by law and the central role of the one party is enshrined in the Californian Constitution?

Oh wait, no. You meant that a majority of Californian voters consistently preferred one party out of the many on offer that you personally would rather they hadn't. Silly me.
Which California are you talking about, North, South or Central?

Man behind plan to split up California likes chances in November vote

Yeah I know, it's not happened but it is a proposal.

I do, I need you guys to prosper and do well so the Mexicans don’t go any further north.....we have the French here and that’s bad enough.
Well that would be one way to kick you guys in the shins. Just round up the illegals we have here and dump them on your boarder. Your PM would take them with Arms Wide Open....cue Nickelback

I know. One thing that is fun is to look on YouTube at the compilations of various major news networks on election night. The media thought Hillary would win by a landslide and are in total shock at Trumps victory. My favorite is watching Rachael Maddow in tears.
Trump was in total shock at his victory.

I know what most people think of him in this country. But, I have an American friend, who told me the other day, that, people are feeling sorry for trump in the US, given the medias constant negative reporting.

Is that person, in an echo chamber, or, reflective of the wider populace?

Half the country voted for him more or less. The man gets no credit for what he has done right. Which is something that hurts the Liberal’s agenda to replace him.

People on both sides of the water, don't much care for bullies. But the bully is been bullied by the media. Two negatives, make a positive trump. Do you think, he will get a second term, or his inconsistencies will eventually catch up with him.

The odds are in his favor at this point. The Dems don’t have any viable candidates that are worth a damn.
