I’ve just had the misfortune to listen to one of the mrs conference calls with various bods from the U.K. and US on it and the Board member on the call closed it saying ‘and to our US colleagues congratulations on the inauguration and thank goodness the last 4 years have come to and end and let’s hope we can all put it behind us’.

one one of her calls yesterday someone piped up ‘we need to now focus on the sustainability agenda as Greta will be back when this pandemic eases. We are well on top of diversity and inclusivity’.

The problem with our self-appointed elite is that they are not very good at sharing the wealth, as it were; they are vastly outnumbered by the barely-haves and the have-nots and events in Washington DC a fortnight ago hopefully made them think, although somehow I doubt it.

Your forgetting, because Trump publically, is rather an immoral character. It licenced any number of incidents of people working against the president, that could be defined as treason, but is cast as noble. We saw the same in the 80s, with civil servants against Thatcher and again recently with UK Instiutions actively working against democracy and often in league with foreign powers.

Are you suggesting that Trump would forgo the chance to have opponents tried for treason?

I also think we in the U.K. have very little understanding of precisely how limited the power he had to do stuff was. How limited the power of the President actually is if Congress are against you. Pretty much all he could have done was take it more seriously earlier and ”been more Presidential”. The states very jealously guard their powers against Federal interference.

I'm not a Yank and even if I was, I can't imagine many circumstances when I'd vote for Trump. Even so, the reaction of the mainstream media to his presidency has been telling.

One of the most revealing passages in John Bolton's book "The Room Where It Happened" is when Trump needs to make a decision on how to retaliate after Iran shoots down an American drone. After being told how many lives would be lost in a retaliatory strike, he calls off the attack saying something along the lines of: "That's far too many for a drone". Bolton flags it up as a sign of weakness, but it could equally be presented as evidence that the man isn't quite the fascist, psychopathic maniac that he is often portrayed as.

In other words: "Oh no! This maniac has got his finger on the button!", when actually he killed far fewer people during foreign adventures than St Obama.

Go figure, as they say in Fartville, GA.
