The Trump Presidency...

Care to explain which countries have beaten COVID and how COVID in America will suddenly be under control if Joe wins?

If Biden wind do you expect him to get it under control?
Considering no country in the world seems able to

New Zealand has got it under control, so your comment was wrong.

Comprehension of the problem and good leadership probably have a lot to do with it.

Indeed. Quick decisive action.

The powers that be understood that, given the conditions in Vietnam, including population density, it would be devastating if it took hold.

Luckily also there’s been no cultural objection to masks in SE Asia, especially since SARS.

I last worked in VN 2 years ago, and Cambodia last year. Everyone’s completely happy to wear masks even when they just have a cold. Unlike the anti-masks mongs in the west.

Not looking good in the bookies for the Donald:

Reports of massive turn out and very long queues to vote are a good sign that the voters are taking it seriously. The hope by Trumpets that the last minuet voters will swing it may be ill-founded if they have to queue for 10 hour due to people leaving it till the end and not trusting the vote by mail option.

Some people seem to let their brains get taken over, or as you say, "possessed" by an "ideology". Then they cannot be reasoned with. No matter what you say to them, they won't respond in a rational way. This might have a physical, organic cause. Like Parkinson's Disease, or senile dementia.
I'm sure obsessive behaviour is being fuelled by social media and the entirely biased media(on both sides), who operate a little like a religious order, making pronouncements every minute of the day about how unacceptable the other side is and a victory for Biden, will do the square root of FA to resolve the problem.

Not under control as it's still being spread
So better than America which is significantly larger than New Zealand.

So I ask again do you expect a man who struggles to remember his won name to get it under control?

IIRC bookies were paying off Hillary wins bets before election day it was such a sure thing

NZ appears to have it under control, at the moment.

If Biden really is 3% ahead of Trump in Texas, of all places, that’s not looking good for the Tango’d one. Even though 3% is at the edge of a margin of error, even a neck-and-neck result there, or even a narrow loss, is a significant indicator.

Trump is having to work very hard to hang on to his base...The Economist (that famous socialist publication) gives him a 7% chance of winning.

A lot of people seem to be having second thoughts about voting early

“Change My Vote” is Google Trending in PA, FL, NC, MI, GA ...

The search phrase hit peak searches right after the debates–hitting the MAX limit of the Google search trends chart–and continued strong into the next day:

@bob_the_bomb yes the willingness to put on a mask for just everyday travel was always noticeable in picture of Japan and probably had far more impact on its spread. Not heard of any Asians popping their clogs from wearing a mask in the past which must upset all those anti maskers.

It will be interesting to see the %age of the population who were registered to vote, actually did so. From vague memory the previous turn outs have been quite small in a number of countries, the for and against votes have been from a minority of voters and the majority didn't bother.

Will this be a significant up-swing in voters, or is it just everyone is going early to avoid the last minute panic?

I wonder how many people wish they did that 4 years ago.
I recall hearing a story from an election official in Australia after the last general election. It turned out that one young lady came into the hall asking for her voting paper back, as she was under the impression that, big brother-esque, she was supposed to put a cross against the name of the person she wanted voted off.
She went away disappointed...

I am going with enthusiasm, polls suck, has anybody seen even one, well attended, enthusiastic, democrat rally? No there haven't been any. Trump is getting 15000-20000 people turning out twice a day....even in California ffs.
Polling is entirely dependent on the sample and if its not a balance of opinion, across the entire population, then its not worth the paper its written on... I've similarly at times trawled the net and absolutely zero enthusiasm exists for Biden and you see that in the lack of interest in rock solid blue states and the lack of any polling swing to Biden.

Biden has ran about as negative campaign as you get and in someways more negative than Trump's, which is saying something. It worked and in the summer a positive feedback was created and helped by Trump doing something daft. But its turning into a negative feedback now and people have little reason to vote Biden other than Trump, that is not enough of a reason I suspect for anyone with more than two brain cells and a problem for Biden.

I’m sure that right now a student of behavioural economics will be hoovering up such data as a subject for a PhD thesis. A single vote - an irreversible choice - makes a tiny difference to the final result, such that ‘rational ignorance’ applies.

The idea that people are researching whether they can change their vote would be very interesting for such academics.

One of many false assumption is that higher turnout will benefit Biden, because its benefited democrats in the past. But as we saw in the UK, a higher turnout in a deeply ideologically driven vote, like Brexit produced exactly the opposite effect.
