The Trump Presidency...

Given @Goldbricker's willingness to vilify all things British, you can white knight for it all you like, but I strongly suspect prejudicial malice. Waiting for a smallpox blanket reference.
Not vilifying all things British, Just you throbber

Liar.

Or did he do it more than once?

Oh dear, Slo-mo-quid-pro-Joe just keeps on giving...

First this...

Then this...

All Trump has to do do is remind people of this...

These career politicians have missed out one crucial point, They can be portrayed in public debates on what they have historically done in US politics that spans back decades. Their politics of the last 4 years have produced less than what Trump had achieved, He has plenty of ammo there. It's taken a Chinese Virus and Democrat cities burning to even give them a shoo-in.
Whatever they peddle to the people, there is a skeleton in the closet to make voters think otherwise.

Is it any wonder the DNC want Biden shielded from debates.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand they’re off.....

I rest my case.
You can find clueless people everywhere especially if they have left their own intelligence level on par with Agent Orange and his inept nepotist administration clan.

Trump Campaign Attacks Kamala Harris for Wanting To Ban Plastic Straws.

The Trump campaign is continuing its attempt to paint Sen. Kamala Harris (D–Calif.) as a dangerous left-wing radical in the wake of her selection as Joe Biden's running mate. The latest angle of attack: her support for plastic straw bans.

This morning, the campaign tweeted out a short new attack ad featuring footage of Harris saying that we should ban plastic straws in response to a question from CNN's Erin Burnett at a 2019 town hall on climate issues.

Aaaaaagh -The Horror!
Quick ya'll better build more walls and bunkers to save yourselves. :)
Cue mass panic buying of plastic straws at Wallmart.

So border security, and not following the insanity of things like the Green New Deal are terrible things to believe in? Trump is pretty painful to listen to, but compared to giving your country away and joining the path of full globalization it is a small price to pay.
Have you any idea what ‘globalisation’ actually means? Don’t worry, neither does the Donald.

I suggest you look up the ‘Law if Comparative Advantage’. Free Trade overall has been a massive boost to developed economies.

The ‘anti-globalist’ movement (like Occupy Wall Street) believes that free trade is bad for smaller GDP countries, when things like Levi Jeans and Coca-cola kill off local brands.

No to be confused with ‘protectionism’ which is what Donny advocates (see for example his recent trade spat with Canada). Protectionism is not the same as antiglobalisation. Protectionism is - and has been proven to be - bad for any economy that tries it.

It's never the behaviour of the Human at fault, esp if the human is a gangbanger or religious nutter (PBUH)
You make a good point there. Gun ownership per capita is high in countries like Canada and Switzerland too. They don’t seem to shoot up schools etc quite so often though.

Probably a discussion for the ‘all a bit odd’ thread though.

You seem to have missed out on the whole global spat with China.

But in the experience of many Americans Globalization is a crock of shite. Looking at the countries that embrace it and the ongoing social problems they have make it not worth the risk to take. You know unchecked immigration from the third world and such and the loss of jobs to other countries. That whole NAFTA gig that soured many people here tends to be a vivid reminder.

But looking at the latest numbers that came out today, it does seem Protectionism has some merits. Perhaps the UK might try that approach instead of the whole "Global Britain" mantra. Which doesn't seem to be going to well. But I digress it is your country you do you.

That’s quite a silly thing to say. The Law of Comparative Advantage is one of the most well understood parts of classical economics.
Welcome to the new age then.

By being dependent on other countries for items that are vital to the nation, you set yourself up for a massive failure if you don’t have the ability to meet your needs in certain sectors. You know health, defense, etc etc.

Protectionism also has the advantage of ensuring your economy is not overly dependent on the service sector. Because when one is in that pickle and a massive disruption occurs you are SOL. As demonstrated today when the damage report comes out.

The flaw in your logic is that you assume all other actors are rational and not in fact hostile. Which is about as deluded as it gets. Protectionism does not make that mistake and serves to protect the populace from long term threats. So paying more for things might seem bad, until you can’t get them at all because your partners sell you down the river. In which case you pay in spades.

Would you like some respirator’s btw?

Actually, ignoring the economics which I think Trump does in his head (Because he is so clever and over-qualified) and poor the sods that have studied it for years try and put a name on the model he's using. Trouble is ANY aspect of Trump is still just his same "In the saddle of a troubled horse and shoot blindly" way of thinking. Trying to give it any reputable credence as anything else is but a waste of time and reputation.

If the man spoke a truth it would be world news and for some supporters the sign of the Second coming.

bob _the bomb was right like it or not, you're busy wetting your pants over globalism when it's been the norm for decades.

The problem starts when you can't produce the items you purchase from dollar a day economy's overseas (China or the Far East) at the same price. The analogy I used back on the 2016 election thread was Walmart's $5.00 kettle or toaster. They are two of their best selling lines, how little would a US manufacturer have to pay workers so they could produce a toaster or a kettle for $5.00, it would have to be way below minimum wage and even then I'd guarantee the raw materials were sourced overseas.

Trump was trading on that golden age back in the 50's when almost everything had a made in the USA stamp on it but times changed, China doesn't celebrate Christmas they are too busy making it at a price you can afford. you may not like it but that's how it is and unless there is a sudden mind set change from the average American consumer deciding it's patriotic to pay more than they need or can afford this is how it will be, It's nothing personal it's just business. Have a look around your house and see how much you own is actually made in America rather than assembled in America, even all those guns you own.

That norm is now viewed as a threat by many, thanks to COVID. Like you said times change, and China is public enemy number one now. We also try to avoid buying cheap, as you pay to replace it just as often.

I don't think anyone with any common sense will be looking at the Presidential debates as both participants seem to be a bit ga ga. The VP debates will be interesting considering one will be a woman who kind of exemplifies the American dream while the other appears to be made of plastic, isn't allowed to be alone with a woman who isn't his wife, calls his wife mother and was described by one of those ecumenical Christian commentators as Trumps dutiful wife. But what would we know Robbo we both live in the UK and the deep State aren't coming for us.

Add to that the Whirlpool fiasco example where Donny the soon to be Dodo had one of his lie & waffle his face off rally's the other day. Whirlpool (and other manufacturers) got double zapped by Dumbo's tariffs that American consumers pay for. 1st was the chinky tariffs then just for laughs Dumbo kicked them in the balls by slapping tariffs on the Canadian aluminum imports which together is expected to raise the cost of a Dishwasher to Americans by a further $800. Thats just one item there are lots more like it.

Edit to add: So the truth that Steamboat et all miss is that without those tariffs Mrs Steamboat could have popped over to Home Depot ignored any cheap Asian product and bought an American made Dishwasher for 2g's but because of Donny the Dimwit's tariffs Mrs Steamboat now has to pay $2800 sobs for exactly the same thing.

ps: I have no idea how much an ffffing dishwasher costs. Forbes business magazine quoted the extra $800. Forbes didn't mention the extra 50c a can my beer costs nowadays coz of the tariffs though....

...thats an extra $12 a two four and people wonder why I hate the fat faced fat bellied orange mong.

I look forward to the VP debate..... can moderators step in early due to excessive cruelty as it is obvious that Pence cannot defend himself..... or should Amnesty International intervene early and get the debate cancelled?

27th of October where your "Nothingburger" approach to being VP will be sorely tested..... I'm really looking forward to it!

If I was you I would get someone to ensure there is a ICU bed available locally on the night....... yes, I see the Peter Griffin "pretend serious heart attack to avoid mildly difficult questions or chores" ploy on the horizon, or a deliberate road accident......

But avoid air travel and door handles at all costs.......... Putin may give him a hint/nudge in a certain directions which worked for him.
