The Trolls from Olgino - Tracking Changes

Have you ever seen just how massive the BBC's offices are behind Broadcasting House? Or the size of their offices compared with ITV's at Salford Quays?
Both national broadcasters, with the same basic brief, the difference is one is funded by a tax and is literally unaccountable, and the other commercially funded and accountable to its share holders via a dividend.
The Beeb's powers that be want to be privatised, its archives and rights are worth billions and can't be sold until they p1ss everyone off in govt enough to be sold off. Wheels within wheels.
Public service, my Arrse!
Well, every day's a school day. Who knew that ITV ran a huge swathe of radio stations covering about every genre, as well as a global broadcasting service. Who knew?

I don't know how the BBC is working to deliver news in the UK, but over here in Americaland they are spot on. We receive 24 hour reporting from them based out of the BBC world news. That is mainly the UK studio, a couple of hours from Asia in Their Singapore studio, and similar from the Washington DC studios.

The sensible Americans I meet all watch the BBC for reliable, unbiased, up to date news reporting. American news channels follow one of two models: Micro, or macro. Micro looks at what is happening in their city, and local area. Macro tends to be politically biased talking shops presenting their own opinions of political events of the day rather than presenting a report of many useful facts………..I can guarantee with the method of news delivery here that more than half the population have no clue as to what is shaping up in Ukraine at present.
BBC World News is the TV version of the World Service which was originally funded as an instrument of soft power by the Foreign Office.

Unlike other worldwide networks like VOA or Deutsche Welle it was designed to appear to be impartial so as to gain the trust of listeners/viewers while subtly shovelling out British propaganda.

The dipsticks at the top just see how many millions they will trouser if it ever is privatised, that and the annual bonuses. They will immediately be put onto industry level salaries, rather than semi-govt controlled salaries, and their annual bonuses will likely go up to 100%.

I remember when Yorkshire water went private and suddenly there were a dozen new millionaires who went from driving estate cars to Range Rovers etc.

Yess. I seem to remember that it was NOT actually a huge increase in efficiency that paid for them flash motors.

You are not wrong. For the clever stuff they came to the University of Leeds to do all the techy project stuff to do with water. In my department (actually called a school at the uni) they even stumped up enough to pay for a seat for a new Professor, and must have been sponsoring (cheap research) around 7, or 8 PhD's at the uni, everything from water usage, water cleaning, customer mapping, forward planning, waterway management.

I have found it fascinating on the Ukraine thread how the number of posts from the usual Russian trolls has ramped up and how, it appears, their users change (language ability, tone, etc.).

I've started this thread so that they do not pollute the others, and so that we can track some of their ludicrous attempts to derail others, get us replying to the detriment of those posts, and generally show them up for what they are. A couple to start with:

@labrat : Feeble, yet fecund, posts diverting attention from Russia's annexation of Ukranian sovereign territory.
@KGB_resident : Multiple users over the years. The first incarnation IIRC was quite intelligent. Subsequent ones less so, or perhaps just 'obeying orders'.

One I forgot but was picked up by @still staggin :

@Ursus Major : The occasional nonsense, and likes for all the other Olgino Trolls
Current Affairs?

Seriously?

As far as the BBC's concerned, it's bias is undeniable, both in terms of story selection and in terms of how a story is put together and the terms used - for example, those protecting Churchill's statue a while back were described as XRW o the basis of no evidence whatsoever.
Except for the fact that it's obvious.

I know, RT is horrifically biased… much better to get your news from CNN.
Remind us which broadcaster had been repeatedly sanctioned in the UK and had it's broadcast channel withdrawn in Germany within days of launching as it couldn't be bothered to get a German licence ?

Ah, but of course the Kremlin's trolls will bare-facedly claim that this is evidence of a lack of freedom of speech in democracies.

One of the many which benefitted under the European Convention on Transfrontier Television (ECTT). The only one of those, however, which has been banned for not having a specifically German licence.

We won't know what the German courts make of it until RT DE's appeal is heard. In the meantime, they are allowed to continue broadcasting entirely legally.

I hate to trouble you with logic but just because extreme right wingers protect statues doesn't make all statue protectors right wing. While we're here, are there any other fallacies you wish to promote?

Fallacies?

You don't think most of the vigilante statue protectors were XRW?

Can't recall many Socialist Worker types doing the same.

Russia Today is often cited as an alternative to national broadcasters. They have been successful in creating a presence in most countries of interest to the Kremlin. The apparent political bias is right of centre. This attracted some viewers in the UK who were disillusioned with the apparent left bias of the BBC and found RT on FreeView. The key point below is the very low factual accuracy.

RT News (RT.Com)

The techniques used encourage useful idiots to double down on misinformation and conspiracy theories.

Usful Idiots, antivax and conspiracy theory obsessives often cite material from bitchute. wn.com is a news aggregator. A click the Coronavirus tab returns a list of "articles". The vast majority are from bitchute. This is crazy nuts territory.

Err, bitchute? It's a decentralised video hosting site not a news site. Anyone can create a channel on there, it's like youtube but without the censorship and consequently you will find some nasty stuff on there but for the most part, it's just stuff that would otherwise be on youtube if it were not for the google advertising policies that restrict content to only "advertiser friendly" stuff.

Anything that says "fact check" is bullshit anyway but I can't disagree with the bias that Russian TV news will have against the west.
