Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Just found this today, great to see "Pillars of the Earth" in the list, I mentioned the book in an earlier thread a week or so ago...

    Top 100 Book List
  2. Who's this Harry Potter that keeps appearing in the list? :slow:

I'd definitely put 'Sniper One' instead of 'Birdsong' which I found very long and dull.
  4. I don't read books often, nor have I read much of any that are in the top ten but...

How the feck did Catch-22 not get into the top ten!?
  5. I thought Birdsong was DULL and didn't manage to finish it - Mills and Boon written by a bloke. But looking at the list of top 100 am amazed that so few contemporary books have made it. I hated reading Dickens, although he makes a mean TV drama, but agree that 'to kill a mockingbird' should be up there, but Harry P - come on, surely there is more to life that a wizzard's stick and a few magic mushrooms!? How about Christopher Isherwood, 'Goodbye to Berlin', Robertson Davies 'bred in the bone', Mordachai Richie 'Solomon Gursky was here', etc, etc. So many authors, so little time!
  6. No sign of "A Confederacy of Dunces". Shame.
