Fires, what are we a gas fire company?
No last time I looked we were the British army and we shelled, mortared, stonked and generally barraged the be bejesus out of Brenda's naughty list!
We don't have the Gunners to pull party poppers at Toby Young's Stag Do, let alone a barrage

Anything more than three and a tanner a go and we can't afford them.....

DE&S release key user requirements

For artillery effects, the threshold requirement, meaning the minimum that the system must achieve, is the ability to set the fuze of a projectile and fire a standard suite of 155 mm ammunition using a modular charge system. The objective, however, is for the system that can fire an Armour Seeking Area Effects Munition (ASAEM), as well as rocket-assisted projectiles. The ASEAM would be provided by "cannon fired area effects munitions" as well as sensor fused munitions.

The document assumes that the next generation of 155 mm ammunition will be a 52 calibre suite, as opposed to the UK's existing 39 calibre range. The Tactical Guided Munition (Indirect) (TGM) and High Explosive Base Bleed (HEBB) munitions will be provided separately by the Close Support Fires Programme, it said.

The minimum range that the system must be able to achieve using unassisted ammunition is 30 km in the "specified climatic and weather conditions". The objective range is 40 km, and DE&S said, "NATO forces are outranged and outgunned. The most common Russian self-propelled howitzers NATO forces could encounter have ranges of 40 km, with other 152/155 mm systems being able to engage effectively out to 60 km."
Impetus is moving to longer range and lethal effect, so will we be saying bye bye to the Ligh Gun except for 29 and 7RHA?

Couple of linked tweets, Nicholas's first shows the Ammo delivery varient of the Boxer, the linked tweet below it showing the K9/K10 combo

On extended the range of guns two links

This second one is a thread, but the US firing extended range guided Excalibur rounds from an L58 calibre gun

Nicholas Drummond seems to have seen the "STRIKE" light and has become a very vocal Boxer variant advocate on miltwitter of late.
One suspects the budget available post integrated review won't match the cheques he is imagining being written, but he could always get some models..

[thread drifting in to FRES...] Ironically, IIRC one of the disruptions of the Trials of Truth in 2007 were the promises of what an as yet unmade PIRANHA V model could deliver. One hopes the Supacat variant tomorrow is cheaper than the JLTV/Bushmaster available today, but that is likely in vain.

He drives me nuts with his wishful thinking, but I'll give him one thing his schoolboy enthusiasm does mean he's obsessively watching what's going on, so if you ignore his dreaming and focus on the platforms you can see what's available, what might work, and what might not.

I just dont see how the Supacat can work with a armoured cab. The things are extremely top heavy and 'rumoured' to like a lie down even in the current configuration.

Either we go for a complete new build chassis, or JLTV/BUSHMASTER is the best that we are going to get for the prices available.

At the end of the day, the MOD/Army need to get the best kit for the job for the Lads/lasses, and not try to manoeuvre non executive directorships or jobs in swing constituencies.

I think that this is what Supacat have as an equivalent to JLTV/BUSHMASTER. Neither this no the JLTV are relevant to anything connected with an SPG.

What might be relevant to artillery is the apparent reference to using one of their larger vehicles as a gun tractor. But that would be for towed artillery, not SPGs.
