How feasible would it be to just upgrade the hell out of the AS90??

That’s what we are doing with our M109’s.

You could also use more Rocket Arty!!
Probably the cheapest solution, main upgrade would be a new barrel from 39 up to 52calibres.

Which we had developed yonks ago, but had issues with the ammo supplier

I'm betting on Wheels because of this
as well as increased range and mobility for supporting Strike and armoured infantry operations
So... Archer, Caesar or ATMOS 2000 or G6...?

155mm Module for Boxer has been mooted too, but is 8 inches too tall to fit in A400, Archer & Caesar both excellent systems.

What about C5 & C17?

I had secret 120mm mortar hopes for the Boxer ala AMOS or NEMO
Not sure 81mm even features in STRIKE, so something with a bit longer range and omph seemed logical
Less of a log burden than 155, moves quicker/could keep up, as well as a direct role function

Dragonfire sadly not available, but could have done both natures of 120mm rounds

You are going to want an ER 155 or HIMARs.
The mortars would be a great compliant, but they are not going to cut it against the Russians either.

Against rooshians, you need ALL the fires!

and for a really cheerful reminder as to why shoot & scoot is a good idea, here is the Ukrainian 2B9 crew (4or 5 round burst fire 82mm mortar on a trailer) learning about getting out of action quickly in 2015

They dithered for far to long. The Russians are not one to underestimate. Shoot and scoot is a motto to live by.

Upgrades to 2 Regts worth of AS90 (for the (tracked) Armd Inf Bdes) and purchase 2 Regts worth of a wheeled SP 155mm (for the (wheeled) Strike Inf Bdes)?

BAE have just released a new video for their double-barrelled 120mm mortar Mjolner
Looks AJAX compatible, is there a BOXER/MIV version in the wings?
Interestingly its not a breech loader, but muzzle from under armour

Depends how many are going to be retained for the 2 Armd Inf Bdes and 1 Division (they aren’t suitable for Strike)

Strike will need wheeled SP 155mm anyway.

Strike will need some mobile mortars.
A 120mm mortar would be suitable (especially if direct fire is possible with it), especially in a peer/near peer scenario.

Strike’s mobility means they can get could be out of the range of their own artillery very easily.

It problem is a 120mm’s danger area.

Or they could go with the proven AMOS

So RA/RHA requirements are?:
- 2+ regiments of SP 155mm (for Armd Inf) - ideally tracked?
- 2+ Regiments of SP 155mm (for Strike) - ideally wheeled

So imho either buy MOTS tracked SP 155mm and wheeled SP 155mm or buy all wheeled SP 155mm.

More VFM sense? All wheeled !

So that would boil down ta choice of three systems in each bracket

Heavy
AS90 Upgrade
K9 Thunder
ASCOD/DONAR SPG

Strike
Archer
Caesar
Boxer with DONAR SPG Module or new module.
