If the law as posted is currently correct, what's the problem & why the "dumb"?
Because he's the latest in a long line of people on this site recently to google search a line of legislation and then declare they've found the answer that was eluding police this whole time, whilst ignoring all the challenges around it from the very, very recent case law which massively qualify how that line of law may be used and these issues have been put forward a number of times by various members of the site in response, in this thread and others.
The point is that just a few years ago police did immediately go steaming in at DSEI when some people sat down in the road and arrested them - exactly as he wants them to do now. As recently as june, the supreme court has again affirmed that disrupting the highway for the purposes of protest, including the intentional blocking of it, is a 'reasonable use' of the highway and quashed their convictions.
It also ignores the potential logistical and safety issues that arise from this sort of thing which could slow the process, which have also been raised.
I will say that I agree in that Police have no business, if they aren't in a position to just be lifting people straight away, to be offering tea or support to these idiots though.
