Kollek was legendary, was in post about 30 years and ousted by Olmert. Notable for his work / contact with E. Jerusalamite Pals.

'Downtown' Jerusalem has a central street (B. Yehuda), with eateries and shops and the Old City has been regenerated. There are other areas to spend your leisure time but I have not been there in sometime.

Is there an M&S or a Dixons on B.Yehuda? :D The place is always busy with tourists who want to buy trinkets or have coffee, etc. The other roads looks different from the early '40s, for a start there is all the congestion!! Will have to visit Jerusalem next time with some old black & whites to make some proper comparisons.
