Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Shurely this will cement my reputation as a real conehead, but what do you make of this?

    • Constantinople → Istanbul

      Istanbul & ¬Constantinople

      ¬Return(Constantinople)

      Time(¬Constantinople) = long

      TurkishDelight ↔ MoonlightNight

      for all Gal ∈ Constantinople, Lives(Gal,Istanbul) & ¬Lives(Gal,Constantinople)

      Conclusion: Date(you,Constantinople) → Waiting(her,Istanbul)

      OldName(NewYork) = NewAmsterdam

      Reason(changed,it) = Prefer(people,NewYork,NewAmsterdam)

      ¬Return(Constantinople)

      Time(¬Constantinople) = long

      Reason(Constantinople,works) = ¬Business(¬Turks)

    Can you guess what it is, yet? :D

    ..and it's that God-awful They Might Be Giants song from the early 90s.

  4. SFD - have a word with yourself - just 'say what you see' as that utter creep Roy Walker might say if he conjured up the bollox to register on ARRSE! :D

    Evr'y gal in Constantinople
    Is a Miss-stanbul, not Constantinople...

  5. Ok - that's clearly defeated you...try this one:

    • 10 let x=10
      20 if x>1 then let b$="bears" else let b$="bear"
      30 if x>1 then let s$="roll over, roll over" else let s$="I'm sleepy"
      40 print x, b$, "in the bed, and the little one said", s$
      50 if x=1 then goto 90
      60 print "So they all rolled over, and one fell out."
      70 let x=x-1
      80 goto 20
      90 end

    The value of 'x' can be changed to any other integer as required. Please note this is Basic.

  6. 10 let x=10
    80 goto 20
    90 end

    output would be

    10 bears un the bed and the little one said roll over roll over
    So the all rolled over and one fell out

    10 -1 = 9 goto 20

    Is that sinclair basic darth or bbc basic :p

  7. Hmmm..it works for me...what are you suggesting? Which line is bonk?

    Edited to add: I'm using Red Squirrel as an emulator - clearly I don't actually have a BBC clanking away here! :D

  8. No sorry it works for me too , just thinking out loud

  9. Oh my god...

  10. GOTO's !!!

    • b := "";
      s := "";
      for f := 10 downto 1 do
      begin
      if f > 1 then
      begin
      b := "bears";
      s := "roll over, roll over";
      end
      else
      begin
      b := "bear";
      s := "I'm sleepy";
      end;
      writeln(IntToStr(f)+" "+b+" in the bed, and the little one said "+s);
      if f > 1 then writeln("So they all rolled over, and one fell out.");
      end;

    • f f=10:-1:0 d
      .i f>1 w !,f,"bears in the bed and the little one said roll over",!,"So the all rolled over and one fell out"
      .e w !,"0 bears in the bed and the little one said I'm sleepy"

    Name that language
