I'm joining as a guardsman and am choosing between grens. and coldstreamers, would any of each one have any major changes, advantages or disadvantages, in my career? Opinions on them in terms of ceremonial duties please

Cheers for the replies, are there any height restrictions in general and for trooping the colour

They both have incremental companies:

Nijmegan Coy for the Grenadiers
No 7 Coy for the Coldstreamers

They both only have one battalion, and both will be posted in/around London for the near future

They are both currently light role infantry

The ceremonial side is the same for both, but how much you do and when depends on where the unit you join is posted etc.

You can also try for Guards Para from either.

In terms of your career, the only limitation is how you perform.

Guards Regtiments are pretty much of a muchness, it usually comes down to which part of the country you're from, when you're getting to the minute decision you are making it really comes down to how you like your buttons arranged and the colour of the feather in your busby.

Why not just go straight for 21 or 23 Reserve?

If you join the Coldstreamers you will forever be labelled a sheepshagger.

If you join the Grenadiers you will be forever labelled a hermer.

If however, you join the Scots Guards you will be a man amongst men and won't have to worry about 'Feathers' (****) in your 'Busby' (Double **** points there)

Enjoy your apprenticeship in bullying. When you leave you'll have all the qualities of a fine manager.

Yes but join the sweaty socks and you pay the devil later.

You become a baldy turps imbiber who posts shite on a Friday night.

Go safe, join the rifles.

However, if you aren't a member of the funny handshake club, your promotion will be slower than the AGC on a PFA.

That's actually a good point and, sadly, true.

And no, I'm not and never will be.

Laydeeeees and gentlemen, we have a winnnnnner, first one to fully bite at the obvious hook, despite xrayyankees ruinous attempts. Hoorah for the colonials.

If it was a hook, then well played, and you're a twat.

If it was a cover up for being a thicky, well played again, but you're still a twat.
