The Great North Sevens 2008

Good Afternoon!

I have been roped into helping organise a national Sevens rugby event up in Newcastle Upon Tyne over the August Bank Holiday Weekend.

I have been tasked with drumming up support and teams for this event, which promises to be all the fun of Dubai in, well, The Toon!

Here is a brief synopsis of the Event so far:

*Invitational, Open, Club and Womens' Events. Prize money and trophies.
* Leading Sevens Franchises
*Festival Atmosphere with Live Music, DJs, Dancers, Drinking Games, etc.
* Provison for up to 500 tents on location.
* CAMRA Beer Festival all weekend
* VIP 'PIMMS' and Champagne area, players only compound
* 'Funfair' and mini-beach
* Beer Tents
*Stash Shops
* FULL physiotherapy support for all teams.
* RFU Roadshow
*ARMY recruitment stands/roadshow (hopefully!)
* NANDO's Chicken outlet
* Matt Hampson/Wooden Spoon/Help for Heroes collections (TBC)
* Dancers/Cheerleaders/general totty
* Guinness Premiership Stars and skills workshop (aimed at children)
* Tournament over two days with Pub Crawl on Saturday and AFTERMATH party on the Sunday.
* Free drinks, stash, food and discounts for all players and spectators.
* Sevens Tournament in one the best party cities in the World! (probably!)

Basically, the formula for any successful sevens festival. Local businesses, bars, nightclubs, and universities are combining to provide the perfect package for both fan and player alike.

Essentially, ladies and gentlemen, I am looking for teams. Any unit rugby organisers -at whatever level- reading this please feel free to contact me at for further details and an application pack. Furter advice on who to contact RE: help for heroes/RBL, etc would be also greatly appreciated.

The event promises to be a great weekend of rugby, beer, totty, and banter in the land of Pease Pudding and Shearer worship. Get involved before it is too late!
