    .........between initiative and integrity

When does doing something not become initiative, but a breach of integrity?

    Comments?

  2. Initiative and integrity are not opposite ends of the same spectrum. Your integrity (or ethical stance, or moral values or sense of right and wrong) enables you to judge any action, whether blindingly creative or 'just following orders'.

  3. Initiative is thinking on your feet, outside the box or wherever else you want. Initiative is taking it upon yourself.

Integrity is doing the right thing - not doing the thing right. Integrity is breached when you knowingly do something that is wrong or will impact others badly, without good cause. Integrity is being able to look at yourself and be happy that you have done the best you can with what you had and not use any off it as an excuse.

Very clear and accurate description Me Hinecap...

If anyone is ever unclear on this topic in the future, think Nurenburg Trials.

Initiative was the Nazi approach to strategic requirements. Unfortunately, integrity seemed to be questionable. But that is a question of perception, I hear some cry.

Well maybe in this case we should use 'morality' in the place of the word 'integrity'??

  5. Integrity:

    1. Steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code.
    2. The state of being unimpaired; soundness.
    3. The quality or condition of being whole or undivided; completeness.

    Initiative:

    1. The power or ability to begin or to follow through energetically with a plan or task; enterprise and determination.
    2. A beginning or introductory step; an opening move: took the initiative in trying to solve the problem.

    Good post China! :D

An excellent definition. I note that whilst the military continue to demonstrate integrity and initiative on a daily basis, both are qualities the present government are utterly devoid of. Perhaps this explains why they behave as badly as they do, and why it offends us so much when they do it.

Integrity - taking the hard right over the easy wrong.

  8. You clearly have something in mind. Why not pretend "it" all happened to a friend, tell us about it and see what happens?
