Surely that is for threatening Taiwan and for going head to head with other Asian nations over things like disputed islands and sabre rattling with the likes of the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Malaysia.
Any sort of overt invasion of an African state would be a disaster in terms of reputation. It would be more subtle such as a sympathetic leader asking for Beijing to send advisors.
It would be very interesting to see, especially in somewhere like Zim as you have to cross other countries to get to it. We know how much fun that can be.
Smashing up Taiwan is one thing as logistically it's on their doorstep.
Expeditionary warfare with a long Log chain is not something they much experience with or maybe even practise.
Also once they crush the opposing Army and it devolves into COIN with IED ambushes and all that sh1t, it will be interesting to see how the PLA does business.
As we know from bitter experience, twice, going from high Intensity warfighting to COIN is a costly and painful business.
I also think even if it went really badly; they would be unlikely to throw in the towel and lose face on the world stage, especially if its their first major outing.
