Er, They might have a bit of a problem deploying that in Zimbabwe, but it would be interesting to see how they would fare in colonial actions in Africa. It would be a new one as they don't have any prior experience. I wonder how the Organisation for African Unity will react. They are all too ready to shout and scream if they suspect whitey of any neo colonialism. Probably buy off the leaders with massive bribes I expect.

Yes, I was suggesting amphib in general rather than for Zim in particular. But amphibious capabilities also speak towards an expeditionary warfare intent in general.

I doubt they would start a war in Africa but if they did I doubt they would give a shit about what a few countries think of them, as the majority won't care.

It would be very interesting to see, especially in somewhere like Zim as you have to cross other countries to get to it. We know how much fun that can be.
Smashing up Taiwan is one thing as logistically it's on their doorstep.
Expeditionary warfare with a long Log chain is not something they much experience with or maybe even practise.
Also once they crush the opposing Army and it devolves into COIN with IED ambushes and all that sh1t, it will be interesting to see how the PLA does business.

As we know from bitter experience, twice, going from high Intensity warfighting to COIN is a costly and painful business.
I also think even if it went really badly; they would be unlikely to throw in the towel and lose face on the world stage, especially if its their first major outing.

Big difference between invading, and sending a force to “help out the legitimate government against the rebels”.

The West does the latter all the time in Africa, the Chinese just need to spin it a bit.

If you want something to be worried about, look into the ports, east-west / north-south Road, rail and electricity links the Chinese are funding and/or building across Africa.
