The British Army 2008 : A Free Book

#1
Ladies and Gentlemen,

I wrote, self-published and sold off the print run in July 2008, of a text entitled :

"A MOMENT IN TIME" - THE BRITISH ARMY AT A MOMENT IN TIME - 1 JULY 2007 A LOOK AT AND FROM IT OF THE MAKEUP OF THE REGULAR AND TERRITORIAL ARMY. That covers the Army from the end of Operation BANNER to July 2008.

I have transferred the text into a 12 POINT text, 2.5m pdf file (no photos or illustrations of badges due to copyright), as a FREE item to whoever wants a copy.

It contains a comprehensive glossary/abbreviation list, with 28 chapters having 27 amplifying annexes, also seven appendices'.

Covering from the command structure; an ORBAT in army list order (including establishments ie. US TO&E); current military equipment from Jack Knives via Challenger 2 MBT to Communication Systems; training and logistical units (including waterborne and rail). From the smallest unit in the Army to the oddest, ration packs to ammunition. Having comprehensive chapters on the Royal Marines (including Security of Nuclear Weapons) and The Royal Air Force Regiment. The chapter on the UK Special Forces has a annex dealing with the UK civil security and police forces, that of The Parachute Regiment a annex 'The Army and Military Parachuting'. Ceremonial, bands and mascots (and the armies horses), quasi-military bodies, messes and Masonic Lodges.

Apart from such as lineage, regimental/unit history, and trivia ie. why does a Guardsman's boot have 13 studs?, who is awarded a ceremonial, engraved Kurki, who still uses the Long Bow.

I have written it as a handbook that I would want to buy.

So if you want a copy of the file please contact me at : gam47@bigpond.com (you must TYPE this into the address box, do not cut and paste), giving your contact email address within the message (these restrictions are due to my security software).

Yours,
G.A.MACKINLAY

I really, really do hope that this is for real.

What's nagging me is that I believe in the maxim, "If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't."

GA Mackinlay has produced other military works, but the e-mail address given in the Googled references is gam47@one.net.au, rather than gam47 @ bigpond.com. They're both Aussie addresses, which gives a bit of confidence, but then, a naughty person would have to be very stupid to use one that ends in .ru or .ng.

If he has sold off the print run, won't the buyer be a bit displeased that he's giving it away free?

Has anybody received a copy yet?

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Having just been informed of the message above I am rather concerned.

This is the 17th military related book that I have written, it came about when at a professional conference last year in Perth, WA, I was asked after giving my presentation whether I could give some of my peers a had out on the British Army that would give them accurate information re it, as so much on the internet is contraindactory. This I did in a five page format, due to questions it very rapidly went to 55 electronic pages.

I was then approached to do something far more informative, and A MOMENT IN TIME IS THE RESULT. Because the people concerned wanted a hard copy, I put together this volume along with 124 photographs, and drawings of the badges of each regiment and corps. These items are the copyright of my youngest son many taken on operations in Afghanstan and Iraq and elswhere, and in the case of the drawings the product of a very talented grandson of my eldest son's.

I have produced it in printed form, did 250 copies in hardback, and sold the whole lot in just over a week, I should have done more, but, the printers only deal in runs of multiples of 250-if you want less the price skyrockets (has something to do with how printing paper is now supplied here in Australia). The run cost me A$4,700 plus 10% tax, if I had done 300 the cost was 6,060 AS dollars plus tax!!!!! The book was sold at cost and postage and packaging, I made ABSOLUTELY NO FINANCIAL PROFIT FROM IT.

In order to share the information WHICH IS MAJORITY OF THE TEXT IN VARIANCE TO WHAT IS PUT UP ON THE INTERNET, I decided to change the format and remove all photos and drawings, so I am sending it out to whoever wants just the text copy.

It was suggested to me that I put it onto LULU and get people to buy a computer generated copy of what I am offering now for free, but, the production of the item gave me a great deal of pleasure, it was at the time of production as totally accurate as I could get it, and so I decided to share with as many who were interested and to this end I have been sending it out throughout the world.

The British Army made me what I am today, and I owe it a great deal. My family served for many generations, my two eldest sons and their wifes did, so I am giving a very little in return.

The gentleman who wrote the message should look at the language that he used, as under the various telecommunications acts in various countries of the world including the Australian Commonwealth Act, the message can be construed as slander in a Public Forum.
Yours.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

a number of people out of the several hundred odd that have requested a copy of the text, have faulty email addresses. If you have not received a copy please resend your request with the ADDRESS IN THE BODY OF THE MESSAGE TEXT!!!!

May I thank the two pieces of human garbage who sent me virus's, as you have shown me that the very expense contracts for the software work.
Yours,
G/.
