I know the bridge has already gone through several guises in it's lifetime, but another peice of corps legend bites the dust...

Sad day indeed.

What is the fate of squadron bars in Germany, are they going the same way?

Just a quick post to let you know that soon the Bridge Bar and Montgomery Club will be no more. Heard on the grapevine that soon they will have to be drunk dry and closed for good, as soon as I get the dates of the "drink-em-dry" nights I will post them.

RIP
I went through three re-fits of the Bridge between 86 and 90. Keep us informed as it will indeed be a black armband day and a very sad day for the Corp, much history lost!

[Dunno what will happen when 38 take over the camp.

Will keep everyone posted
Why can't it stay as a 38 Bar? The history is with the camp and all those that served there not the unit.

Like the yellow escort by the camp gates ,also the electric fire in the top Sanger , if DNA tests were done half of our beloved CORP's would be the father   :x :x
Will be a sad day when they do close them

Surely they can keep the bars alive...the mural in 33 is sacrosanct....or take it down piece by piece and rebuild it in the Corps museum. (the mural, not the bar).

I'll ask 33's badge whats happening to the Mural, let you know tomorow
The famous mural in the Bridge Inn is being taken down and moved to RAF Aldergrove where the PO Trg Team will be based to take pride of place in their bar.

....I left the Squadron Dec '77 and had the pleasure of many a happy evening in the Bridge Inn, but for the life of me cant remember a Mural...I did try and drive a 'Muirhill' in there one night , but thats another thread!

Any of you guys enlighten an ageing Plant OP about this and perhaps a piccy ? The only thing I got when I left was a bollockin from my troopy for giving him the sections 'spare' ammo.....and a hangover that lasted 3 months!

I dont know when you guys were there but it was one of the best bars ever! ( I went to 10 Sqn (Laarbruch)from there and that was also a dogs nuts bar)

All the best to you all out there.

p.s. Some of you oldies might know me from 33, I was the duty plant op at Girdwood for about 16 months from July '76 ( ish) - Dec '77.

i got to 33 in 94,i think it was around late 94 early 95 the bar got done up. if i remember correctly, as you walked in, the bar was in the left corner, to the right was like an alcove with a snooker table in there, well all that got changed, made a dance floor, and the mural was painted on the wall that runs the length of the dance floor, i remeber it getting painted, and the troop badges on the tops of tables.

is the bbq still standing i wonder, i had the pleasure of building the brick benches next to it.

Fraz,

Your avatar reminds me of someone who was in 33 Antrim with a group of infamous lads who went on a Blackpool tour and to a man came back with the Blackpool Taz Tour Tattoo on their arses, my mate didn't even know til the next day he had been tattoed!!!...

Nice One.....

I have one of those pictures, i spoke to a mate of mine who also has one and when he moved quarters he was told to ensure he had his insured, the removals assessor inform him that one had been sold with the original frame made in workshops for over 2 grand, i have had mine reframed, but have kept the original frame, just in case. ( I remember loads of blokes rubbing out the number of the print as they didn't realise that was what increased its value )

For the older & bolder amongst you who cant remember the mural it was a quality peice of work from one of 33s Lads depicting Drumcree and the works being carrried out by the Sqn. It was done by a lad called D*mo approx 97/98 who left the Corp shortly after. The mural was a centre peice for all to see. Glad to see it its having a final resting place - personally cant see why it has to move?
