The Brexit Consequences Thread

When my Mum pegged it, I inherited a house over there.
During the month me and the Frau were over there sorting things out and clearing up the estate, we considered upping sticks and moving over.
Realising we were spending €200 a week on shopping quickly dissuaded us of that idea.

Basically, the EU is the Continental System come back again after a couple of hundred years. This time the Germans are in the chair, as opposed to the French, but the end result will be the same i.e. a complete failure.

ah yes, Ireland socialised their Banks €90 Billion of bad housing debts and sold them to German banks.

Posted in the EU thread a while ago but still relevant today.
Using a freight booking agency it would appear that the Rosslare to Dunkirk service is £1,295 each way for a driver and lorry up to 13 metres long.
A flat rate for goods vehicle whatever sailing you choose, and knowing DFDS those prices are not going to go down any time soon.
Add the VAT on and it is £3,108 total for a return journey.
Rosslare to Fishguard or Pembroke is a quarter of that price.
Dover to Calais is around £210 each way depending on timings.

I can see why Aidan Flynn of the Irish Freight Hauliers Ass. has the hump now.
Not many single owner/operators will be able to swallow those prices.
I wonder who they will pass those shipping costs onto, Brussels or the Irish consumer?

Small point, an artic is longer than 13 metres. Recalculate on 16.5 metres for a more realistic figure

I can help with that
I shall instruct all our drivers to cease using real toilets and start pissing in bottles with immediate effect
Hopefully we can make some small contribution to addressing the shortage you mention
Make sure that they are really dehydrated so it looks like dandelion and burdock pop.

Have your drivers reported back on the availability of dogging in the pervert paradise that is the garden of England yet.

No twigs, no mandatory clown service and no holidays in Dunstable plus an unexpected shortage of piss filled bottles on the roadsides... I suspect that we are also to be bitterly disappointed on the national dogging centres that haven’t materialised.

Somebody should be held to account.

I fear their disappointment on the lack of the dogging increases they were promissed may lead to industrial action.

That second paragraph . It is probably because you have not filled in the paperwork (72 pages) yet.

I think I knew all along that it would somehow be my fault. (being married, I am quite used to it - no matter how impossible it would be for me to influence outcomes, it is still my fault every time.

don’t forget to tell them to defecate into roadside laybyes too, no wiping mind, they have to look the proper part.

It was all perfectly amicable, remember its all about unity and equality

He said the former ECB president warned him an economic bomb would go off in Dublin if he pursued the option of imposing losses on senior bondholders.

The Irish seem to be struggling to understand that they have been bought and paid for...

I just chose that as a random example, but the prices are still eye-watering.
An artic up to 17 metres is £3,400 return and even an unaccompanied drop trailer is £2,400 return.
What does that put on the cost of a pallet of, say Kerrygold butter?
Or a pallet of Bordeaux wine going the other way?

We dropped from two cars to one car as a very indirect result of Brexit. (I no longer go to France every 6 weeks or so). The car we kept was mine as it was newer, better and cheaper to run. Now, I don't have a house full of twigs but i do have a car full of shoes. Fook knows where they have all come from.

Months ago I did a back of a fag packet calculation on here, if I remember rightly it came to about an extra £50 per pallet, it was purely a fag packet calculation but won't be far off the mark.

I think you came up with an additional £58.

Which more than doubles what it would normally cost.

Even the red diesel saved is not going to pay for that.
