The Brexit Consequences Thread

Lets hope a charismatic leader in a snappy uniform doesn't appear on the scene and start telling the German people that what they need are Potatoes
We have that already:

She doesn't got the grip on the right arm thingy but her totalitarism-score is impeccable. Ex-FDJ-Secretary for Agitation and Propaganda, supposedly Informer for the Stasi. The other beardy one was Informer back in 1919-1920 too. She will cope on our way to Großeuropa and that without one shot fired.

It looks like we'll be starting to manufacture in the UK again, in order to reduce dependence on Chinese factories. I hope that Brexit will give us the flexibility to pass any necessary legislation quickly, and set up free ports where factories won't be taxed so much.
This article discussed the effects of re-establishing national industries. He makes a good point when he says that consumers will expect goods to last longer if they have to pay more for locally-sourced products.

And yet you labelled Brexit voters as :"obnoxious".

That must have been the caring sharing middle ground "obnoxious", not the other kind.

Every day etc...
You seem to be a poster child for the problem.

Start with a distortion of the truth, say something irrelevant and vaguely hostile based on that untruth ....... and so it goes on.

There is at least on poster on arrse who is convinced that she is an agent-in-place for the Russians.
In which case, it won't be Großeuropa but Rossiyskaya Imperiya.

He said, without a hint of irony.

Feel free to enlighten us with some examples of my work. I am particularly interested in "distortions of the truth"

Many thanks in advance

(Although I will not be holding my breath)

Perhaps she could take lessons in saluting from Magic Grandpa

Somebody has put 10p in the mong again...

Liberal Democrat acting leader Sir Ed Davey said the advertising campaign would fill businesses struggling with the impact of the coronavirus with "utter horror".

He said ministers should be seeking "as close as possible relationship with the EU to not only minimise the damage to the UK, but allow both themselves and British business time to focus on getting the UK back on its feet again after the pandemic".

One day perhaps, he’ll wake up and understand that his utterly irrelevant wibbling is not going to make a difference to anything, ever.

Maybe he has a point. The woman is just intangible, indifferent, slippery as an octopus. She likes to turn her flag according to the wind and is totally colourless. What she likes to do is kowtow to any dictator.

I'm strongly opposed to this. It will end in a "child of love" and then we are all on this infamous creek without paddle or boat.

Well perhaps her mindset is such- I don't claim to know but it strikes me that to an old aphorism could be used. You can take a person out of politics- you can't take politics out of a person. She was always a neo Socialist, that's what the CDU effectively are and there are times in history when thought coincides with options. Russia doesn't claim to be driven by communism, France has a Communist President Germany has an ex communist leaning chancellor. The point is that the Grande Vision Europene can't succeed without converting Britain and we're a threat

The UK needs to concentrate on high tech manufacture with AI and robotic production - that's where our manufacturing future lies. We can't compete for low tech/low labour cost goods anymore. And that's going to require a change in the UK tax regime to allow companies to write off a large percentage of their R & D and capital equipment costs against tax. Which would (if we had not left the EU) have had the EU screaming about state subsidies.

For good measure, the government (like the French already do) should prevent companies key to the UK's future being brought up by foreign investors.

As another unionist living in Scotland I'm sure I don't need to point out that the SNP will milk any occurrence for grievance, like rain falling, the need to breathe, the sun rising etc etc...

Happy to help...

The only time I will worry is when the SNP come up with an Indy Scotland financial plan that will stand up to any form of basic scrutiny! The SNP and gravelbelly can winge all they like about leaving the EU but the recent CV outbreak has clearly demonstrated that without the RotUK we would truly be up sh it creek and the EU would not be running to our aid. Any Indy campaign would have to put that front and centre and also explain to the sizeable chubk of their supporters why tying ourselves back to EU is independence!

They represent the majority of seats in parliament 546 out of 709. And after the election they will still represent the majority, sadly there is no viable alternative for them if you don't see the xlw and xrw loonies as alternative.
A big part of the german population is sold to the EU hook, line and sinker, so there will be no change. SOme grumbling over "our money" but thats it.
But the German constitutional court is the ultimate arbiter of whether the German constitution is being infringed. And could throw a large spanner into the works by stating that - legally - it is. In which case, the only option open to the German parliament would be a referendum to change the constitution. Which in turn might result in two fingers from the electorate.

AS I've said before, it's the parties to the left of the political spectrum that want to stay in the EU - Labour, the Limp Dems, Greens, SNP. That's because they want to expand the role of the state. And the EU has been doing just that by steadily expanding its areas of competence - and impacting on the UK statute book.

It's the parties to the right of centre who want out of the EU, because they want to scale back the role of the state. (Tories, UKIP). And we can only scale back the role of the state once outside of the EU and it's laws/regulations.

The Federal Constitutional Court should be just that. He's had run-ins with the ECJ before.
Nevertheless, the constitution is changeable with the exception of a few articles which have a so-called eternity guarantee.

As it looks like the politicians are wildly determined to push through this nonsense and they will certainly not be stopped by such trivialities as the constitution or a Federal Constitutional Court.

In times of COVID-19 where large parts of the population cheerfully accept every restriction of basic rights this is really the smallest hindrance.
