The Brexit Consequences Thread

I've never understood that argument. An employer provides employment. If you don't like it, go self employed. It's like the "Right to work", never understood that. No one has a right to work.
Not always that level of choice mate. Some people's options are limited, and they're the ones who get ripped off.

You don't have to give a shit, bit you can't pretend it doesn't happen unless you're a Conservative MP.

I expect that means something. Maybe.

What, nothing? I could have sworn, for instance that a new political party and a new prime minister have happened. Plus lots of other things.

I could be wrong though.
These matters are neither here nor there. The proper fun begins next month.

You mean the Qualified Majority system that gives EU states with larger populations, such as the UK, even more say in decisions?
It doesn't. The fact that you have a larger seat allowance does not transmit to per country. I'm still trying to work how us leaving leaves our seats to be divied up, as though the population in the remaining countries have somehow grown. When we go our seats should.

so why were they enforced to the letter with Customs staff on rosters?
Government agencies with on-the-books staff keep, in theory, to all employment and H&S law or it’s a bit awkward. Not so the majority* of the workforce.

*lifeboat... I’m not doing all the detail here. Breathe, man, you can make it.

Brexit: No-deal plan threatens UK fuel plants

here we go again

We're doomed , doomed !

quote... from BBC news

[The current tariff on fuel imports from non-EU countries is 4.7%.

However, under World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, a zero tariff rate must apply to petrol imports from all countries, opening up the UK to Russian fuel imports.

At the same time, the EU has said it will apply a tariff, under WTO rules, of 4.7% to UK exports, making the trade with, for example, Ireland "uneconomical", according to insiders.] quote

so it will cost 4.7% extra to sell fuel to EU countries but we can buy EU fuel at WTO tariff free prices from anyone including non eu countries (so the BBC starts shaking and quivering about Russian crude , ....but says nothing about tariff free crude from Saudi, USA even Venezuela if we wanted to

so again it looks like the main losers are RoI getting refined fuel from Pembroke, with a few hours sea time well they'll just have to bite the bullet and get the tankers in from Rotterdam with the increased transportation costs

there was a milisecond , one sentence on the news that actually said we, the consumers could possibly get a better deal from tariff free fuel at the pumps

Far as I can recall, most of the fuel coming into europe is from non-Eu countries other than (UK/Norway), as it is , so are tariffs already paid ? raising the cost for everyone even before it is refined , taxed , transported?

anyhoo here's the link Business News - BBC News

Well I don't have a problem with that bearing in mind the treasury still collects the the Excise and the VAT and it makes petrol cheaper, but there would be nothing illegal in adding 4.7% as a carbon tax to offset the difference, it's not a customs duty and is in line with the Paris accord, besides we already import Russian gas via centrica and what difference does the consumer notice? As far as I know there is little to stop Russians exporting to us, short of UN sanction. From my perspective that's good viz China's domination

As to the last, bear in mind that we have at least ten years to come to agreements for alterations to the tax status. The Government could increase or reduce the level of corporation tax to offset the difference for the interim so they'll be prepared for a nominal drop of 1 or 2% in corporation tax take to compensate. Since we make a lot of stuff that Ireland takes in who's that going to hurt?

Instead of this Operation Yellowhammer stuff, you’d think think this Government would start leaking the advantages of Brexit.
After all they’ve had three years of the Spartans and ERG to think of something.

Not at all,Ben Wallace on Breakfast Time tells us that ‘soldiers and police are marshalled and ready to go’. Perfectly normal good news day..
Nothing to see here.

Edit. This is the sort of thing I mean. Eswatini........anyone?
This from Liz Truss.
BREAKING: We’ve reached agreement for trade continuity with South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Eswatini and Mozambique after Brexit.

trade with these countries is worth nearly £10 billion a year and the agreement will be signed shortly.

Moreover the issue is pointless. The affects of no deal are organisational not legislative as far as I see. The Laws by which we operate with either passengers or freight are already in position, the only thing we don't have is the operational staff. Oh and for the record, there is absolutely no problem with the armed forces working under the direction of either the Customs or Immigration directorates as aid to the civil power in the short term. They did it for the FBU during the strikes- the only issue is the standard of training. That of course is down to our shortsighted Socialist brethren who really take the biscuit in terms of two facedness....still as ever " The working class can Kiss our **** WE.VE GOT THE FOREMAN'S JOB AT LAST."
