The Brexit Consequences Thread

Unemployment the lowest since 1975, whose going to be the first to blame it on Brexit ?

That’s great, always happy to see people in work. Yet in 1975 the tax payer wasn’t subsiding private employment by paying tax credits. If a jobs worth doing it’s worth getting paid for.
Also you’d expect the tax take to be way up thanks to the numbers of people in work.

WE've been subsidising the low paid long before 1975 - Family Income Supplement. The tax credits scheme was designed to make it more attractive to work than sit at home and claim FIS.

It also subsidises all low paid work, public and private sector.

'Unemployment % must have a floor level around 4% in a healthy economy as the economy recycles people from inefficient employment to more productive' [Seaweed, armchair economist]. Discuss.

Correct, and thats the core problem the UK faces.

Blair allowed in an endless supply of cheap fairly skilled labour thats had a double whammy on UK PLC

No unemployment, which should have driven up wages, but a huge surplus of inward labour has had a downward pressure on wages.

I’d be interested in the public sector rates of tax credit.
Me too.

It's just a merry go round. Tax payer fund the treasury, the treasury pays tax credits to low paid local authority staff (e.g dinner ladies, cleaners etc), the local authority is able to hold down council tax. Allegedly

Key phrase;

Full employment means that everyone who wants a job have all the hours of work they need on "fair wages".[

Ah yes, robbing Peter to pay Paul (and also pay Peter while Paul sits on his dole-sponging arrse and Peter works like a Wing Commander's dog all day.)
