The bigotry of the left wing / champagne socialism

Reading the online version of the Grauniad, I came across the following:

Teenage Corbyn fan rejects hypocrisy claim over Eton scholarship
Teenage Corbyn fan rejects hypocrisy claim over Eton scholarship

Hasan Patel, 16, accepts place after calling school’s charitable status ‘absurd and corrupt’
A teenage supporter of Jeremy Corbyn who has been accused of hypocrisy on social media for accepting a scholarship to Eton has told his critics that he will use his education to “go out and tackle injustice”.

In response to claims he was a “champagne socialist”, he pointed out: “My free school meals don’t serve champagne.

So, as usual, it's do as I say and not as I do.

Another one of the left wing "comprehensive education for all is best" destroy the grammar school / public school system.

This goes along with Valerie Vaz sending her daughter to an £18,000 pa private school and Debbie Abrahams, the shadow secretary for work and pensions sending her daughters Dawn and Victoria to Bury Grammar School for Girls (£10,500 a year each). This despite Messers Vaz and Abrahams supporting the "no more grammar schools" protests.

Where is Guy Fawkes when we need him?

How much more working class can you be than reading at Eton, next thing you know he'll settle down and to show how down with the proles he is names his kids Piers and Jeremy

Of course, most of the Labour Party’s members are workingmen. However, whether or not a party is really a political party of the workers does not depend solely upon a membership of workers but also upon the men that lead it, and the content of its actions and its political tactics. Only this latter determines whether we really have before us a political party of the proletariat. Regarded from this, the only correct, point of view, the Labour Party is a thoroughly bourgeois party, because, although made up of workers, it is led by reactionaries, and the worst kind of reactionaries at that, who act quite in the spirit of the bourgeoisie. It is an organisation of the bourgeoisie, which exists to systematically dupe the workers with the aid of the British Noskes and Scheidemanns.”

To be fair they do need someone to memorise all the tuck shop prices.

Come again please!

A bit like Orwell, you've got to have been a part of the problem to really see how bad it is

Nah; PPE 2/2 from Oxford, secretarial assistant & lover to some nondescript labour back-bencher, then onwards & upwards to his own seat in the HoC & malleable young chap as his own assistant.

I know several champagne socialists here in Spain - they don't know each other. All read the Grauniad, one lot is always going back to the UK as they are members of the RSC to watch plays, the other in the Royal Ballet Society or whatever, and off to Covent Garden for the ballet and another to the 'other' home (a converted mill) in the UK. All of them drink very expensive wines and yes, champagne (Over here! Wine decent is a couple of euros a bottle and cava is cheap as chips too!)

All have good pensions, but are very vocally supportive of the poor down trodden / the NHS / Education but not of course, Defence. This despite all of them having property here in Spain AND in the UK - some of them renting out yet another UK property for some 'additional' income.

Yet if you ask them (OK - wind them up) about Blair or Corbin, then off they go on a rant!

Some of the over privileged shit they come out with is both laughable and worrying.

And a timely tweet by a Tory parliamentary candidate...

So racism is quite acceptable as long as you're on the left, and aiming at someone on the right.

This would be the kinder, gentler politics at work, yes?

You get racist comments from left wing figures aimed at Tory MPs at Stand Up For Racism events so they have form for it no matter how ironic the occassion

For example Sajid Javid was mockingly branded a “House Muslim” at last years Stand Up For Racism event, and to quote the words to show how they like to stand up for racism....

“We have Sajid Javid – who is, you know, the House Muslim – who just cos he’s supposedly brown… and just because he has a Muslim-sounding name…”
