What school children in Canada would do was to sneak behind the school bus where the driver couldn't see them and grab onto the bumper. When the bus started moving they would slide along on the ice behind it. The point was to test your nerve to see how fast you would be willing to go before letting go. There was always the risk of hitting a bare patch in the road however and going face first onto the pavement. Former PM Mulroney did this as a child and broke his chin, adding to its already prominent size.

If you were really brave ( read foolish ) you'd grab onto the bumper of an RCMP cruiser. Major bragging rights if you did and got away with it.

Every winter the UK press seem astounded when we get winter weather.

Its as if global warming should kick in about September, and they are looking forward to report on hose pipe bans, tarmac melting in the cairngorms, and pensioners droping like flys from heat stroke in mid December, and are amazed when the M4 is under 4 foot of snow in January.
