The Baltics: should Britain be rushing to their defence?

Yes, I know about variants of spelling (humor, humour). Both are correct. This time my fat fingers failed to press 'U' button in time and I mentioned it too late. Though as American style spelling is also correct, I didn't care to correct the word, while as a rule I write 'humour'.
English speaking board, write English in British English.
Let's return to anti-Semitic (from my point of view) action of Lithuanian official.
Do you agree that it is absolutely unacceptable in civilized society, that European and British politicians should react properly to such a blatant anti-Semitism?
I’ve no problem with the actions taken, just your missing words and your struggling to admit why you left them out.

Don't I recall that chemical weapons don't work very well in cold conditions (ie. very cold), largely due to the solvents remaining liquid instead of evaporating? That was a quarter of a century ago mind, so things may have moved on a bit.
Sure. A-232 is very good to be used in the cold conditions, and even good old VR (VX) is continue to be liquid till to -39C, and still effective in poisoning of snow until spring. Thats why one have to exemine not only air, but snow, too. Fall in poisoned snow - you will be poisoned, bring poisoned snow in a warm barrack - VX will evapored and all personnel poisoned.

It is a fair remark. So please, don't use youself words that don't exist in English as sepErate for example and use expressions YOU AND ME, YOU AND I properly.
I'm just a foreigner, not native English speaker. I bring my sincere apologies for previous and future (unavoidable) mistakes. I will try hard to write in British English.

I pointed to the source and quoted it to present essential (from my point of view) information.
Anybody who cares to get additional information is free to read the article in full.
Also I beg you to quote your own sources as you frequently don't quote them.
It would simplify understanding of your point and content of the source.
I shortened the quote just for brevity while you frequently (in fact) shorten (unexisting) quotes to zero.
So I would like to mirror your remark.

I seem to have hit a nerve :) good to know. You're fine with pulling me up about things mentioned as a natural English speaker. I ask you to use correct British English and you get all upset ;)

You took that part out as it mentioned a period in time. I'm unsure why you just don't admit it?

Well the Speaker of the Lithuanian parliament seems to think that anti-Semitic statements are unacceptable, as he has asked that the person in question resign from his post, as noted in your original post. A committee will be looking into it. The official's job will be expiring in June anyway, so it may finally be resolved by simply not renewing his contract.

I'm not exactly sure what your point is.
My points (btw, do you agree with them?) are
1. It is absolutely unacceptable for a person that occupies official position in governmental structures to make such propositions and remarks.
2. Such a person should be voided official status immediately if he (she) continues to remain on such an anti-Semitic position.
3. Reaction of government and parliament in such cases should be tough and immediate.
4. Reaction of the speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament is insufficient and weak.
5. This case demonstrates that such an ugly thing as anti-Semitism alas still has deep roots in Lithuania.

You took that part out as it mentioned a period in time. I'm unsure why you just don't admit it?
I answered your question and once again try to answer it. I shortened the quote just for brevity and I recognise it. However, I quoted another fragment that contains even more detailed account of case than words that I didn't placed.
Maybe you don't understand my answer or don't wish to understand or pretent that you don't understand...
Anyway I answered your question. So please answer my one.
What is your attitude to the action of the ombudsman? Is it acceptable from your point of view? It seems to me that you tries to avoid direct answer.

The second paragraph adds nothing to the point you deleted.

You deleted the part on a time frame for a reason. Your wriggling is obvious.

I've already said I agree with the actions taken.

Those that doubt that anti-Semitism in Lithuania is a problem should read this articel
Home truths about Holocaust turn popular Lithuanian writer into Public Enemy No.1
Author Ruta Vanagaite was the toast of Vilnius – until she wrote a book about her country’s involvement in the Nazi killing machine and cast doubts on a national hero. Now she says she’s scared to leave her own home without pepper spray
1.5786266.2484476733.jpg

“Terrible consequences can be applied if the authorities want it to happen,” Vanagaite, 63, told Haaretz during her visit to Israel this week. “They will try to silence a person for telling the truth about Holocaust history, with or without criminal charges. Everybody has something to lose. Look at me: I thought I was a free person with nothing to lose – a best-selling writer with a big readership. And today I am afraid to go in the street.”
All five of her best sellers were removed from Lithuanian stores by her publisher, which said the thousands of copies of her books would also be destroyed.
As I understand it is Lithuanian style freedom of speech and opinions.
Vanagaite’s sins were twofold: The immediate controversy involves a remark she made to a journalist, challenging accepted historic details about a legendary symbol of Lithuania’s resistance against brutal oppression by the Soviet Union in the 1940s. But in the background, she believes, is the deep discomfort of Lithuanians – particularly those of her generation and older – with a book she published in 2016, “Our People: Travels With the Enemy.”
It is a history that she, like many Lithuanians, had been unaware of and was appalled to discover later in life. Together, Zuroff and Vanagaite visited 40 mass-execution sites and interviewed elderly witnesses to the massacres, which made the rapid extermination of 220,000 Jewish-Lithuanian citizens within five months – 95 percent of the country’s prewar Jewish population – one of the earliest and most efficient “accomplishments” of the Nazi regime.
In Lithuania, the official narrative depicts cooperation with the German program of rounding up and slaughtering Jews as the work of “degenerate” elements, Vanagaite says. But as she details in her book, backed up by documentation, the historical records show that cooperation and assistance was large-scale and facilitated by Lithuanian government workers and the military, in what Vanagaite calls the “Lithuanian bureaucracy of death.”
The emotional narrative she writes about in “Our People” includes how she personally came to terms with the fact her uncle and grandfather, among others, played a role in the Nazi killing machine that led her country’s Jews to their deaths.
“It was a big shock for me. Once I discovered the scope of it and that my family was part of it, I began to believe that every Lithuanian family should look into this history,” Vanagaite explains.
Her 2016 book was an unexpected best seller, being the first such book written for a nonacademic, popular audience in Lithuanian. It triggered a national conversation about the Holocaust and propelled her into the spotlight.
So brave woman tried just to tell about bitter truth. And how it has turned?
she soon learned that her publisher was dropping her and destroying her books. The prospects that any Lithuanian publisher would ever publish her work again were grim. Invitations to lectures stopped arriving and she was accosted on the street. The Lithuanian national archive, she learned, decided not to give permission for its photographs to be used in translated editions of “Our People.”
Most unnerving, she said, was the implied threat against her by a powerful figure, Vytautas Landsbergis – Lithuania’s first head of state after the country declared independence in 1990. Landsbergis, she said, wrote a scathing Op-Ed that included chilling words that she interpreted as calling for her death: “You so-called writer, you should go to the forest, find a tree, pray and condemn yourself,” he wrote. Internet trolls then asked if she had gone to the forest yet, threatening to “help her along” if she hadn’t gotten the message.
For the last few months, Vanagaite says, her livelihood and hard-won professional reputation have been battered and her personal safety threatened in the homeland where she was once celebrated as a widely read author. She describes a month in which she has been living like a prisoner in her own home, rarely venturing outdoors. When she did step outside, she was never alone, afraid of being confronted on the street, called “Putin’s bitch” or accused of being a Jewish or Russian agent at best, or physically attacked at worst. To try and calm her fears, she bought pepper spray for those outdoor sorties.

It is unclear answer.
1. Do you agree with the action made by the ombudsman or
2. Do you agree with another action - accusation of his anti-Semitism from the speaker of Lithuanian Parliament?
Why did you miss off the piece on a timescale? Your answer remains obfuscation again.

Which part of the actions taken have I disagreed with?

I propose another Bloomberg's article
Latvian Central Banker Hits Back in Deepening Bribery Scandal
The probe coincides with separate bribery allegations against him from Norvik Banka JSC, a Riga-based lender controlled by Grigory Guselnikov, a Russian-born U.K. citizen. Norvik detailed accusations in a 39-page complaint to a World Bank arbitration body.
The complaint, filed in December, also alleged that the Latvian banking regulator had retaliated against Norvik for the refusal to pay the bribes over a two-year period to late 2017. The regulator denied those allegations.
Among the allegations made by Guselnikov:
  • In a suburb of Riga in 2015, he met Rimsevics, who said that he could help him if he cooperated with his associate; after Rimsevics had left, the associate wrote on a piece of paper the sum of “100,000 per month”
  • On several occasions he again met Rimsevics, who threatened to drive Norvik out of business through regulatory problems if he didn’t cooperate
  • Rimsevics’s associate asked Norvik to launder money, including $100 million from Russia, for which it would keep $1 million

Now any more or less important event on the World stage is attributed ... right, to Moscow and its evil polit-technologists.
As for Larvian banking crisis then it was a matter of time to wait for respective accusations.
Latvia Signals Russia May Be Interfering in Banking Crisis
“There is a high probability that an externally organized widespread information operation is being carried out that, by its structure and execution, is identical to those observed in pre-election periods in the U.S., France and Germany,” Latvia’s Defense Ministry said in an emailed statement on Tuesday.
High probability means complete absence of facts
And of course Defense Ministry is the most competent organization in banking business.
While it didn’t explicitly name Russia, the ministry cited recent events, including the publication of a photograph that allegedly shows Rimsevics in Russia, as evidence of an attempt to damage the country’s image and erode public trust in the state before elections this October.

Those that doubt that anti-Semitism in Lithuania is a problem .....
Nobody has said anti-Semitism isn't a problem. Your pushing of the agenda is noted. I'm not sure any country (other than Israel) can claim it hasn't had a problem in the past or even now. After decades of Soviet, then Nazi and then Soviet occupation it is quite understandable. That's not to say I agree with it in any way.

I could of course go on about some 'whataboutery' and Russian Nazi's, but you should get the point.

Aren't you the one who says your current political leadership is corrupt? And yet you'll believe everything the Kremlin tells you about not interfering in other countries?

There are saying "One hundred kilometres is a big distance for Europe. One hundred years is a long time for USA". Sometimes, you look like Yank, my dear Underseptic friend. There was Pro-Nazies Junta of Ulmanis before Soviet occupation, there was Parliament Republic with half-socialistic reforms, there were Latvian riflemen, fighting in the civil war on the side of Red Army. Before revolution there were hundreds year of Russian Imperial "ocupation", there were hundred of years of Polish abd Sweden occupation, there were hundred years of German Livonian occupatio, there were military and cultural influence of Russian, German and Scandinavian states in medieval times, economical influence of Arabic traders etc... Current situation of the 4-th Reigh occupation is just a stage, not somekind of "The End of History".

Nazies are West ideology, is part of pro-West self-identification. Last years pro-West ideologies are not popular, and amount of Nazies is significally fallen. There are absolute minority of a virtual Nazies. Few freaks, nothing more.

Man, you can see Russian colonists in Londongrad by your own eyes. Do you believe them, when they say, that they are not part of "Russian interfering" in other countries?
