The Baltics: should Britain be rushing to their defence?

Discussion in 'Current Affairs, News and Analysis' started by whitecity, Mar 26, 2014.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

Does not matter. It means, that your statement:

" He had also allowed Nazi's to train pilots and tank crews in the USSR."

Is a lie and stupid West propaganda. As usual, you know.

You don't have to apologize. It is not your fault, it is your problem.

  3. By definition, if the school was open when the Nazi's were in power .......

Your propaganda says he closed it because of that. There were a number of reasons not least was Stalin's rapproachment to the West and that it wasn't needed.
If I was wrong I would. You've never admitted any of your incorrect assertions btw

  5. NATO HQ Aircom | Exercise Tobruq Legacy 2017 commences
A bit more on the US Patriot deployment earlier. This appears to be part of an integrated SBAD (Surface Based Air Defence) exercise, bringing together multiple nations and their differing systems with testing and evaluation bringing in the standards, doctrine and practices of the CAOC (Combined Air Operations Centre) in Uedem Germany. 2,000 personnel, 800 vehicles, 13 nations. Seeing as it only started four years ago, not bad going:

And yes, continue discussion about NATO-created movie about "Forest Brothers". Usual NATO style - heroisation of terrorism and Nazism.

About "terrorism". It is a using of "terror", usually - murders of government units and peaceful population in achiving of political goals.
Most (90%) of victims of "Forest brothers" were not soldiers or policmen, but usual peasants from local ethnic groups.

Talking personally about Arvid Bluzmanis - "hero" of this video. He was a "soldier of Waffen SS", taking part in mass murders of Russians, Jews, Communists. After end of war he joined to Evalds "Šerifs" Pakulis bandgroup.
In 1947 he had surrender to Soviets, and was not executed or even imprisoned, so, we can assume, there was some kind of "deal" (very good deal).
Talking about this "epic battle" near farm Āpusnieki in 1946, when 25 bandits had attack 200-300 Soviet soldiers, bandits had lost 3, Soviets, according official documents, (now not secret and published in internet), had lost 5 (not 50) soldiers. Three to five, formally its a good exchange for bandits, but really it show that they could not make even a normal ambush. Also it mean that Soviet commander was not enought attentive.

  7. You might want to do the same WRT Kaliningrad, as foreign troops there are useless & will be wiped out before reinforcements could arrive.

And what is wrong with this "ugli creature of the Treaty of Versaill's" and execution of convicted criminals? Mass executions are usual part of Russian-Poland-Ukraine relationships. Somebody more informed that ordinary West mushroom can ask about elimination of eighty thousands of Red Army soldiers (prisoners of war) in Polish camps of death.

  11. Actually we are bound by our NATO membership to defend fellow members, however, with what do we respond? with a hundred, battle hardened 'diversity in the workplace' instructors, as seems to be the current 'deployment' in response to Putin?

Truth be told, a non NATO member, Sweden, has spent twenty five years destroying its own superb defences and armed forces, yet proclaims to 'Lead' the EU army in terms of brigade warfare, FFS. That is what Socialist governments get you, so why bother stepping in if they are so eager to embrace Russian levels of austerity.

The reason is that if Russia takes Gotland they can do it overnight, and from there they dominate Scandinavia and Northern Europe, ergo, as a world power, the USSR boys will be back in town, which seems to be Putin's aim, restoring Russia's old position.

That last item is what I have gleaned from following @KeirGiles on Twitter (the rest is just me being a cynical old fart).

  12. Keir has also been posting on this thread ;)
Happy to see 253 posting from the Philippines ;)

However, things have moved on and Sweden is taking self-defence more seriously. You may not have read of the reinforcement of Gotland, nor the unprecedented levels of cooperation between Sweden and NATO today.; things are changing.
